Yes, I've been exactly where you are eleven years ago. You have a hormone imbalance that's causing amenorrhea (lack of periods).
When I stopped taking the pill, I missed nine...yes that's NINE...periods. At first the doc said to wait for a few months to even out naturally. It was driving me nuts wondering every month if I was pregnant or not. It didn't help that one of the symptoms I had is premilk. He finally tested my prolactin level and found it to be too high to ovulate. I started a month long hormone treatment but had to stop after two weeks because of severe headaches. The headaches were caused by another hormone imbalance...because I was pregnant!! I had ovulated one time and conceived! I named him Chance. ;)
You'll want to talk to your doc about which hormones are out of whack and the options you have. Hopefully it'll be an easy fix. BCP regulate your period, but it does nothing to balance the hormones YOU produce. (For reference, I was diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia-high prolactin levels-and was prescribed Parlodel.)
I wish you the best of luck. Blessings

I used to have really irregular periods like that. I would miss months and months in a row. I never did anything to regulate it. I didn't get pregnant until about 3 years after we were married, even without using birth control all that time. So, it may be harder to get pregnant, but you never know when you are going to ovulate again so...well, keep enjoying each other in the mean time. I would definately see another doctor and get a second oppinion. Lowering your stress level and making sure to get enough sleep can also help (since that's something that can make even someone with regular periods skip).

There could be various causes of having irregular periods. Take a look at some of the most common ones.
The beginning of perimenopause or a disruption of the natural chain of hormonal events that controls menstruation. A wide variety of factors can be responsible for irregular periods, among them:
Significant weight gain or loss
Over-exercise
Poor nutrition (or a diet too high in carbohydrates)
Smoking
Drug use
Caffeine
Excessive alcohol use (interfering with how the liver metabolizes estrogen and progesterone)
Eating disorders
Increased stress
Polycystic ovarian syndrome/estrogen dominance
Uterine abnormalities (fibroids/cysts/polyps/endometriosis)
Hormonal imbalance related to perimenopause
Medications
Chemotherapy
Recent childbirth, miscarriage, or D&C
Breastfeeding
Good luck!

Go see another doctor or go back to your doctor if you think he will listen and ask for clomid it has helped thousands of women all over the world and can regulate your menstrual cycle and help you to get pregnant. Good luck chick, hang in there and remember if your not happy with your doctors advice see another one and why not google clomid for some extra info, I think doctors are too quick to give out the pill sometimes because it isnt always the best solution for everyone and some women rapidly decrease their fertility and knock their bodies out of sync which can take an awful long time to get back to normal.
All the best.

This may sound really weird, but have you tried getting an adjustment from a chiropractor? Most people don't realize the impact that back problems can have on the rest of your body, and sometimes you don't even know that your back is out of adjustment. I used to have the problem of bleeding for like 3 months straight and then not bleeding for 3 months, etc., but I was advised to get an adjustment and it actually regulated me.

i know my obgyn had told me tat sometimes she puts women on the pill for a few months then takes them off because the month(s) after they come off the pill they are may have an easier time conceiving.
Also it would help to find out why your periods are irregular. there may be something else wrong that might need to be checked before conceiving. good luck.

Try taking Agnus Castus. This is a natural remedy that helps to regulate your cycle and is commonly used in women who need help adjusting cycles at using BCPs. If this doesn't help, ask you doctor what fertility type drugs would be good for you to help jumpstart your cycles.
Good Luck.

See another doctor one that specializes in fertility. You can ovulate without a period but you need to see a fertility doctor to determine if you are ovulating. Don't wast time with this doctor, his solution isn't going to help you get pregnant!
