I just had a friend tell me that she thought that anyone in an impoverished situation could easy get themselves out "with a little initiative" and that mothers use the WIC money to "paint their nails". I was just wondering what you think.

She qualifies for the title Miss "*****". First of all, WIC is cashed in only at the grocery stores- it used to be stamps but is now like a credit card (my daughter manages a grocery store). 2. She must be a wealthy - what I call the trust fund generation- they have no regard for money- they never had to work to get it, they are useless to society because they believe everything in life should be handed to them on a silver platter- like their $$$$. I think your "friend" isn't much of a friend but an egotistical *****--- I would love to know what she does for a living- I suspect nothing and I hope my theory that she is a trust fund baby is right on.

For the most part yes it is as you state. I work with the poor and impoverished and never met a morescandalous lot. Granted there are some out there that really need help but the fact of the matter is they get lumped into the whole group then are frowned upon. i've seen a instance where a family qualified for so many programs that they all stopped working their small jobs and the state and town picked up paying for all their needs. I tell you that i sucks being middle class, working my tail off then seeing that.

That's crazy. Poverty is a social issue. There are many jobs available if you will allow yourself to be subjugated to the power hungry's abuses. There are lots of jobs that are not like that but many jobs are demeaning and the workers are not treated like people of value, but something to be lorded over. Some people don't work because of that. Some people are more or less nomadic and the lifestyle that they lead is not conducive to our commercial environment. Many jobs force conformity on employees that have little or nothing to do with performance of the job. I will also point out that living on the amount that people on welfare get would not be easy and wic is a program more strict than food stamps and it does not allow you to even buy nail polish.

No and No. While some people do abuse welfare benefits, most are just trying to get by and live their lives.

While I can appreciate your friends opinion, I don't agree with it. Many people lack the funds or the training to secure higher paying jobs. There is little availability of such jobs to people that don't have college degrees and funding for school is getting smaller all the time.

The sociological and economical factors aligned against low income earners are nearly insurmountable to a few, much less all of them. It's pretty easy to judge when your standing on the greener grass, but it's not always fair or right.

Some of the hardest working people I can think of are poor. There are some places in the U.S. where the economy is so bad, you could be better off quitting your job and going on welfare. Getting out of poverty may seem simple to someone who's never been there or known people there. I think welfare is widely abused though. The cost of living in this country is more the issue!

definite and no. i be attentive to that i've got lived dirt damaging whilst working as no longer uncomplicated as i could. After my employ, i became left with approximately 50$ a week for gasoline, nutrients, and each thing else. This supported 2 human beings. i be attentive to it wasn't laziness that positioned me into that place. It became because of the fact the only interest i could locate became working for 7.20 as a cashier 25 miles far off from the place I lived. I additionally be attentive to that there are a number of human beings accessible who somewhat are damaging because of the fact they do exactly no longer desire to artwork. Why difficulty helping your self, like I did, and having no longer something left over once you could take a seat on your butt and not artwork, and the government provides you with each and every thing you desire? the only reason i did no longer do this became my satisfaction. i be attentive to many in a position-bodied people who did. some did it out of laziness, yet maximum did it because of the fact there have been basically no jobs obtainable. They wanted to artwork, they basically could no longer. Many had no autos, and there became no public transportation the place we lived. What else are you able to do? walk thirty miles to artwork each and every morning? So are the damaging lazy? some definite, some no.

well first of all yes anyone in an impoverished situation could get themselves out but sometimes it takes a little more than initiative, for example before we go judging someone else we need to know why they are in the situation they are in or maybe just ask our self what did we do to help that person help them self out. as far a wic goes its not money they give you its vouchers kind of like checks and thank god that ive never needed any assistance before thanks to my good job but i think that your friend has never needed before that's why shes so quick to judge.

No way. Our society doesn't pay enough in entry jobs to make a living. Also, when you get WIC or Food Stamps.....they do not give it in cash. It can only be used for food or formula. You can't go to the nail salon to use it. You have to make about $100,000 a year to live comfortably. Most people make like $45,000.....which would be tough to raise a family on. Tell your friend to stop being a snob. She is obviously young and I bet one day she will be in a tight situation.

I think if you help one person that truly needs a lift up, then it is a good thing. I do believe there are a lot of people that abuse the system and that needs to be addressed.

I do think that to receive help one should have to work. There are so many things that could be done by this workforce even if its just pick up the trash and plastic bags blowing along the road. I'm also sure this would cut down on abuse and help the community.

Sounds like your friend is a bit too ignorant and generalizing. Perhaps she will mature someday soon.

As for her observations, like I said, she's generalizing. There's a million and eighteen stories why some people are on welfare and some are not, why some were and are no longer on it, etc etc.

There are welfare cheats, and there are those that have genuine need. Your friend needs to open her eyes a bit more, as that sort of generalizing is a large part of arrogance of the worst kind.
