You need to reset your iPod. Ensure that the 'Hold' switch is in the off position. Hold down the center button and the 'Play/Pause' button at the same time for about 5 to 10 seconds. Your iPod should restart and full functionality should be restored.

Hmm...I just had trouble with my iPod yesterday. When mine starts being weird, I reset it. To do this, turn the hold switch on and off a few times. Then hold the menu button and select button down at the same time for about 6-10 seconds...or until the apple shows up on the screen. Make sure you hold the menu button as close to the top as you can and that when holding the select button...you are not touching any part of the wheel. If it does not work, try both steps again. It didn't work until my second or third try yesterday.

And don't worry. If you have your songs on your computer already...you'll just need to update again. I hope I helped. :)

if ipod is 2 gigs or less hold play/pause button for 10-15 secs. If ipod is 3 gig or higher hold menu and select button 10-15 secs...or if anything...... Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

Press and hold the Menu and Select(center button) buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Don't worry mine did this the FIRST day I got it I panicked! But all you have to do is let is drain out of all it's battery... it will be all night but it will fix. And if all else fails Apple will replace it easily. Don't worry about it.
Good luck
