lemme get this straight,......you're asking if lawyers lie???
However,..its sounds like somebody is getting upset that they were not caught "fair and square". If the person admitted to doing it? Why get upset with the means on how they were caught? It does not excuse their own behavior in the affair.
To get to the truth, sometimes facts have to be twisted.

There appears to be confusion in some of the previous answers. It seems clear that the questioner is asking about a prosecution lawyer (a defence lawyer would not need to lie to get a confession).
An interrogator, be it a police officer or lawyer, is under no legal obligation to tell the truth. Deception is allowed. However, they are not allowed to coerce a confession. Trickery and coercion are different things.
There is a reason why defendants should say nothing during an interrogation.
Note: lying to an officer of the law is an offense in most jurisdictions.

Yes, it's a standard interrogation tactic. And you fell for it. If there is a next time, remember that 90% of what they're saying is bluffing and smoke. Cover your butt, man ;P

it is an interrogation technique that is permissible. Obviously, he has asked you previously about the incident and you have lied. So, to use trickery, it is just an interrogation technique that is legally allowablee.

no this is entrapment, or soliciting a confession under false pretext. no person may by coercion solicit a confession, this will never hold in a court of law.
