The dog needs to do everything on her own........yes she is screwing it up, the poor dog has more, many more puppies....tell your granddaughter she has to leave until the mother is done....even then, she better not touch them for a week or so....

Well, the growling could just be a sign that she is in pain. Alot depends on how close your grand daughter is to the dog, what kind of relationship they have. She may be pushing the pups away for now while she is still having more and will settle down later on. This would be under the heading, watch and see what happens next.

Possibly she is being stressed too much. Pet her and talk quietly and observe. Of course you need to watch her if she is rejecting, etc. But try to only observe....
Hope after this litter she will have the dog spayed as she is getting too old and their are too many dogs/pups euthanized every year.

usually not if it is a house dog ,
although some pets could do this if you touch them just after birth
wild animals and birds often reject their young if people touch them
if she is growling it may be a lost cause ,that does not sound good.
some dogs will even eat their pups if they dont like them for some reason

If you bother the dog while it is having pups it will be trying to bite you. The mom dog dosen't want anyone around it, that is why it is acting like that

if you interfere too much, she will try to move the pups to better protect them
