Because people are passionate and self centered. Their beliefs are the only right ones. This is common with religion. Now true spirituality is where you connect with a higher power and you learn that tolerance for others beliefs is how it really works. We aren't supposed to kill each other over it. Just because I stand in my garage, it doesn't make me a car. Those who attend church are some of the biggest hypocrites. GET SPIRITUAL FOLKS!

some time past i replaced into taught interior the army that the only stupid question is the single which you do no longer ask. on an identical time as an offended and one sided question could no longer be optimal, it somewhat is not practically as undesirable as an offended and one sided answer. Discussing faith with monotheists may be awkward. Polytheists a minimum of settle for that distinctive gods are achievable, and specific are not extremely so probably to state that their pantheon is the single and easily authentic Pantheon, and that as a result you will be speaking outta your butt. consistent with danger we could continuously learn from the Romans, whom I collect have been usually enormously happy to assimilate different custom's gods, different than for those pesky lion-bait Christians... ;-) enable's have greater useful solutions. solutions that admit the possibility that somebody else would have a greater useful answer, and that finally, "the respond" may be previous absolutely everyone at this evaluate time. yet no longer consistent with danger, the following day. happy New 12 months, Andrew

The angriest responses come when the topics are about religion or polics because that's what make people uncomfortable or they have a firm grip on what they believe in and decide to show it. (Most of the time what some show isn't the sweetest.) That's life for you... I try to answer my questions like a civilized human being. I think we all should!

I think its quite possible that just because people hold onto these things so dearly that they cannot be dealt with, without creating a very strong emotional response. I think its not merely religion and politics, but a vast array of topics (one could even include sports franchise affiliation) that cause such a response...

The reason why is perhaps both more sinister and sad depending on your viewpoint. Many people hold onto the religious beliefs and political beliefs that are passed onto them by people who are very close to them in their formative years (most often parents). Since most people accept the authority of these figures and dont critically try to understand their beliefs, they often cannot provide the sensible defenses or understandings which are required in more specific debates. Once there is a flaw (or percieved flaw) within the debate, most people dont have the critical foundation to fall back on. As a result they follow the emotional response which is much more available to them.

You have to remember that most people are very territorial. Religion is a core element of who they are and what they base their lives on. When people ask questions in the wrong way, that is usually treated as aggressive and responded to in kind. They feel the need to vigorously defend their beliefs and don't always do it in a way that exemplifies those beliefs. Some even defend their beliefs by attacking those of others.

Personally, I think they would go a lot farther if they discussed their faith rationally. But, no body's perfect.

Superficial discussions about religion and politics are about as intimate as most patriarchal societies get, and as such, it is threatening to have your particular point of view challenged... it means that the person who disagrees with you must also find you inferior or inadequate. The baseline is that you are not deemed worthy by the status quo if you step outside the box--your views on religion and politics are the surest means of determining whether you are a "regular" or someone who wants to take over the world.

LOL! Sex, politics and religion will always elicit the most emotional responses, because they are the topics that hit closest to home.

These are topics that really polarize people. That's why they used to be forbidden as polite dinner table conversation.
