All my fish are tropical.
I've seen in the pet shops where sometimes they give them slices of Oranges.
My question which I forgot to ask at the Pet shop is.
Is it OK to put a piece of Fresh Fruit or a piece of Raw Cellery or lettuce leaf in the tank as long as its rinsed clean with water?
And not left in the tank longer than 24 hrs?

My fish enjoy slices of zucchini and cucumber, spinach and lettuce leaves, canned green beans, and peas (outer skin removed). I read an article at Aquarticles wherein the author said his fish loved banana slices; I tried it, but my fish didn't go for it. Even carnivorous fish will nibble on fresh veggies, but omnivores and herbivores will love 'em.

It depends on what kind of fish you have. Some fish eat mostly meat (other fish), or some are vegetarians. If you want to give them a different variety of food once in a while, you can feed some brine shrimp for protein or cut up some lettuce. I have never heard of any one feeding their fish pieces of fruit- that is strange! You can even feed them raw red meat once in a while.

I was in a pet-smart one time when the girl was feeding oranges to the goldfish, and she told me it helped with the appearance of the fish.I asked her if that could be done with all fish and she advised not to,it was only for goldfish. For what its worth
