Get 5 big boxes label them
Throw
Give away
save
store some where else.
Kitchen stuff

Throw box has trash and stuff in it
Give away what your willing to give to someone if you haven't used it in a year get rid of it you will not use it.
save things that need to be hung or put away If its too small put in give away box,do not save it.
store some where else. 1 favorite doll one favorite stuffed animal get rid of the rest.
Kitchen stuff All teens have food dishes in there room use this to haul the stuff to the kitchen.
You may want to add to be washed box every time this gets full take it in to be washed.
Then strip you sheet wash them vacuum dust and clean your room clean base boards in that order and wash your walls .then when dry remake your bed
Get mom to shampoo your rug if bad.

First, Do a little each day so there will not be much stress
Do separate sections of your room, get three large bins, one for donating, throwing away, and keeping. Make sure everything in that area is cleared off, then rearrange it. While your doing that, be sure to get bins, jewelry holders, etc, to keep everything organized.

first , go through all of your stuff and get rid of what you dont need. Dont be afraid to throw stuff out- you cant save everything!
next , as far as storeage goes, one large peice of furniture is better than several smaller pieces. Go through oyur clothes and decide what will hang and what will go into drawers- organize your drawers by type of clothing.
Under bed storeage boxes are wonderful, I have one under my bed for shoes and one for sweaters, also , I live where it is cold so shorts are not something I wear very often, they go in a storeage box too and come out only when I need them.

Get a nightstand, keep your essentials in that.

Make rules for your room- post them if you need to as reminders for yourself.

some good rules are:
]no clothing on the floor, not even for a second- this will help you to keep better track of your clothes- if you try something on and decide not to wear it, don't drop it on the floor to pick up later, in my experience , later does not come and it just piles up- hang it immediately, keep a laundry hamper in your room, dirty clothes go in the hamper and it gets emptied at least twice a week- no dirty clothes on the floor - straight from the body to the hamper.

another good rule is, never leave the room with the bed unmade- no matter how messy a room is, a made bed makes a HUGE improvrment and inspires neatness everywhere else.

If oyu eat in your room , never never leave dishes in there, always take them with oyu as soon as you walk out, even if there is still something on it and you ' intend ' to come back to it- sometimes it just does not happen- keep up with it and it wont get overwhelming.
Keep a garbage can in oyur room and make sure to empty it 3- 5 times a week depending on how much oyu use it. Garbage goes straight to the can, not on the floor or under the bed- no mess to clean later.

Everything has a home and everything in its home- if you have a full shelf and you get something new- get rid of something old- for everything that comes in - something old has to go out. v If it does not have a home, make a home for it or get rid of it. Make a habit of putting everything where it belongs.

Essential pieces of furniture: One large dresser, one nightstand, one bookshelf. Shelving on the wall is okay

essential accesories: garbage can, clothing hamper and a basket.

the purpose of the basket. the basket is your catch all- sometimes there is just not time to put stuff away right away- dont make it a habit - do your best to get stuff in its home right away, but for those times you cannot, instead of it getting piled up on the homes of other objects , winding up on the floor or under the bed, drop it in the basket-then as soon as there is time, empty out hte basket an d put things where they go- dont let the basket become the home of anything and dont let it overflow. The basket is a good place to put things that will be leaving oyur room to go in other areas of the house or things to remember to bring someone- just remember to empty it out when you are leaving the room so stuff soesn't get too comfortable there.

small storeage solutions are helpful too - a cd / dvd case jewelry/ accessory box,
If you have small toys or hobbies, get some small baskets to line up on a shelf to put these things in, keep the baskets exclusive to one type of thing so you always know where what you are looking for is.
