I had similar situation during university. This type of human cannot be changed easily. The greed and abusing other "friends" is there dirty tool to get what they wants easily and free.
I suggest you to plan for separation and leaving him or telling him to leave. OK you can wait and if he make another foolish mistake similar or worse than what you have described, It is, then, the time to be strong and say A BIG NO.

OK. is he on the lease? if so you will have to put your foot down! AND HARD! if your laying on the couch, and he says get up, raise your eye brows and say " ummm bet i don't" Ask you for money.." i don't have any". put a lock on your bedroom door, and make sure you hide your money. OK. if he's NOT on the lease while he is at work. pack up ALL his belongings, take them to his parents house, one of his friends, a mutual friend, just make sure EVERYTHING is out, like he never lived there ( even his toothbrush) change the locks! then call him, and tell him where his stuff is, and not to come back to your house! (make sure your not on speaker phone). Don't discuss it, just say what you have to say, and hang up. if he comes to your house going off, call the cops,( do not tell the cops that you changed the locks) then you can file a protection order, and then you know he's out. so do one or the other. I tell you this, because i actually had to spend hundreds of dollars evicting someone from my house who wasn't even on the lease! however, if they live there lease or not they have rights. and you have to evict. Good luck! Or if you want to YOU move out.
