I am a college student on tight budget ($1000). However, I need a laptop for next semester. Priorities: It should be fast and reliable. I do alot of multi tasking and im into web surfing, music and games but I'll mostly use it for school related work (MsWord etc.) Im thinking a Dell probably an Inspirion with a dual core processor and a two year warranty. Just a suggestion but I open to any advice.

if only for school works and media excluding games, the best performance we have now under$1000 should contain core 2 duo operating at 1.83, 1G memory and 120G hard one, I can assure you that you'll never find a laptop with a good GPU under $1000, so gaming is a pain uner $1000, but by adding $200 more you can get a Geforce 7300, which is a pretty good GPU, and it comes with all the other things mentioned above from ACER.

hp, dell, toshiba are all reliable, you will find satasfaction under$1000 from those makers, others I don't mention because they're either too expensive or crappy.

By the way, this is an answer in Canadian Dollars

Get a MAC!! They're a little more expensive, but Mac will give you a discount since your a student and they're well worth the investment.

First find out what you need and then, and then go on line and start building you a laptop. I would look at http://www.dell.com you can call them, and they will help/
