I grew up in Orange County where there was scarcely any blacks. Now I live in a black populated area and I feel like I stand out. people call me whitewashed. I don't feel comfortable around a lot of blacks. But I feel comfortable around Latinos and the weirdest thing is I feel like I stand out when I'm hanging out with the blacks but I don't feel that way when I'm with Hispanics. I feel weird also because I don't really like black guys so I force myself. Not that i don't like black guys but they are not my main preference. I don't even like having a preference because I feel like I'm segregating people. How can I feel more black? I feel more comfortable hanging around white guys and hispanic guys then I do with black guys. I'm actually kind of afraid of black guys. I don't want to be confused. I want to be normal. What should i do?

personal opinion: you need to get over it. sounding like a bad after-school sitcom. here's an idea, how about you just be you. you not black, you cannot feel black. try to stop identifying people as black, or hispanic/latino (or white). don't try to be these guys, be yourself, you will gain more respect from people.

Be yourself, there is nothing wrong with that. We all have a preference whether we want to be that way or not. If you don't really like black guys, don't be around black guys, if you find yourself more comfortable around people of other backgrounds and they are comfortable with you, then go with it. Just, don't start freaking out everytime a black person tries to get to know you. You can't help where you were raised, it is what it is.

There is nothing you can do to "feel" more black, how does black "feel" anyway? If feeling more black is talking s***, standing on corners, pants sagging and whatever. That's not black baby, that's dumb.

And if people are telling you that you are white washed because you speak proper english, those people are haters and you don't need those kind of people in your life anyway, regardless of their color.

I don't hang around black people I know to smoke dope, or rob, or have no ambition, or have a ghetto mentality, that doesn't make me less black, that makes me smart.

Just be yourself.

The first thing you need to try to do is look at each person as an individual. When we group people together we tend to see them as stereotypes and not unique people. You don't need to worry about feeling "more black." All you can do is be yourself, trying to be something you're not will only frustrate you, and turn other people off. When you think about it, you wouldn't say "I like all white guys." Some white guys are jerks, some are smart, some are dumb, etc...why isn't it the same with people of other ethnicities? Try to get to know people for themselves and you will start to change your attitudes.

You need to face the fact that your life sucks. You're stuck with it and you need to deal. Just remember that people don't judge. Judge not, lest yee be judged. You're probably biased. You know what that means right? Everyone's a little biased. I'm NOT calling you racist. Heck I was uncomfortable when I first started to go downtown for college. I learned to deal with it. Now I give a crap about them like I give a crap about anyone else. Same goes for giving a crap. You shouldn't have to lie to like someone. Be open about them and they'll be open about you. You have to show humility. And you shall get joy in return. Best of luck ;)

Dear Friend,

You have to accept realities. Infact skin color doesnt make that much difference between two ppl or in group.Differences are made by out thoughts and our behaviour. So my friend make your way of thinking healthier and do the needful in situation. Its an old saying DO GOOD HAVE GOOD. My friend it takes time to accept you in that community but once they accept then you will have joy in life. So have patience and everything will be fine.

There is no need to change yourself, just accept them for who they are and let them embrace you for who you truly are.
