I got 5 tiny goldfish from walmart for 28 cents and 3 of those big goldfish and i was wondering if i can put them in the same tank because my big goldfish seem to eat a lot because when ever i put fish flakes in they would be gone in less than a minute and my tiny gold fish doesnt eat that much and im afraid that if i were to put them in the same tank the big one will eat all its food leaving none for the small ones and the small ones might die... so what should i do? should i keep them seperate?

Sounds like you may need to amp up the amount of food a bit so the little piglets will leave some for the rest of the fish just be sure *not* to overdo it. Sprinkle some food in and watch them for a bit to help determine how much you should put in per feeding.

You could also try putting a little food on each side of the tank that way the little ones can grab it up while the larger fish are distracted on the other side. I've done this with my goldfish and it seems to work most of the time.

I seriously doubt the larger ones would ever kill your smaller fish. Goldfish are very docile and as long as your tank is large enough to support the number of fish you have you should have no problems. You didn't mention the size of the tank you want to put them in..goldfish are very messy and a small tank (a 10 gallon for instance) isn't large enough for eight of them.

I've introduced small goldfish into my tanks with my big ones several times. If you use floating food, the little ones usually have a difficult time muscling their way in to get some. However, if you use flakes, the big ones are usually very messy, leaving bits drifting down all over the place. The little ones are great at policing up the mess, and getting their fill at teh same time.

Most people think that big goldfish will bit small one, which is not true. I also have some goldfish and 2 of them were just 2 inches big and rest of them is 5 to 6 inches. They are doing well, but I found sometime small one is biting to big one (not serious bit)

At Wal-Mart they have lists of what kinds of fishes that other fish get along with. Check those and if your fish is not there, then keep them seperate. My friend has 10 fish together, and now there are only 9 because one got eaten to death.

goldfish do not eat each other. It sounds like you aren't feeding your large goldfish enouf so if you decide to put them in the same tank, feed them a lot more.

the bigger fish probably won't hurt the small fish but you will have to make sure that the babies get plenty of food
and make sure that your tank is large enough
