If you are planning on going to an Apple store right now, you will be buying an intel based Mac.
The intel is the key, if it has intel, it will run Windows in a separate partition. I think this is one of the beauties of the Mac. I can run in a safe, virus free, stable environment. But for the few programs that don't exist in Mac-land, Windows can run.
I am now saving my money for a new one, but I am going to wait for the summer, I think by then the new wireless standards will be available as well as the rumored 'iTV'. But this time, instead of going low-end, which I am happy with, I want to go high-end with all the bells and whistles.
Besides that I have a 10 year old nephew, has a Mac desktop, but just drools on my notebook everytime he sees it, he will inherit it and will enjoy it for years to come. (He is one of the reason I am upgrading this soon, just love the kid)

The new Intel based iMacs are compatible with Windows XP using a program called "Boot Camp". It looks like they are working on Vista compatibility.
The older G4-G5 iMacs are not Windows compatible.
