http://www.transportdirect.info is a journey planner for the uk which gives information on public transport as well as road routes.
It will even give train times, bus routes and a map.

Stanstead to Nothampton 97 miles, 2 Hours 22 mins by car if travelling now.
It gives different journey times for different times of day - so I assume it allows for predicted traffic.

If by public transport (you don't say how you wish to travel), take Stanstead Express train to Liverpool Street, Circle or Metropolitan underground to Euston Square, walk to Euston Station, then train to Northampton.

try aa road map..on your pc.actually birmingham probably closest airport.
