To answer your first question,,,absolutely! Your second...why not? Wouldn't that be personally discriminatory?

Do tattoos, piercings, hair or eye color affect someones intelligence? If so, what happens when I change them?

If my hair was long and green and my eyes were brown would that affect my personality or intelligence? I think it would demonstrate creativity and an open mind? It's short because it's convenient (and attractive) and it suits me...in the summer it has mahogany highlights...that suits me, too.

Can anyone be a genius and still be a bigot? Can you be dumber than dirt and still compassionate? Can you be attractive and still be taken seriously?

If you use hair length as "a statement", what is it? Fashion choice, laziness, to tick off a conservative parent?

Does a cancer patients hair loss affect their personality, or is it the cancer?

Think about it....

One's personality is affected by their upbringing not the length of their hair. To assume a person with a certain length of hair acts in some certain manner is called stereotyping. If a college practices or condones such stereotyping I certainly would not want my young adult to attend school there. Should we assume all people with short hair are "square or nerdy"? Are they? Then lets not assume anything about persons with long hair either.

Of course, it's just hair. It doesn't effect ones personality, it's the personality that effects the hair. If a guy has long hair then cuts it short, it's not going to change who he is. It just changes his appearance. As for those who say it looks unprofessional, that's not really true. There are plenty of guys with long hair that keep it looking nice, neat, and clean. Just because it's long doesn't mean it has to be dirty and messy.

I don't see why guys having long hair is such a big deal, saying guys shouldn't have long hair is almost like saying that girls shouldn't have really short hair.

This isn't the 40s. I don't know of ANY college that makes guys cut their hair! Hair length has no effect on personality, it is an EXPRESSION of the existing personality. Making a guy cut his hair won't change who he is. Only now you can't tell. I find that guys with long hair are more liberal and cool.

I think it depends on what their major is. If you're going to school to study law, you might as well go ahead and cut your hair now .. because if you don't, you most likely won't get any respect among your peers when you actually start working. I agree with everyone that we have the right to freedom of expression ... but when you get to college, you need to grow up and realize that you aren't always going to be able to express yourself through your appearance in the professional world. You can't be a nurse, have a blue mohawk and several visable tattoos, and expect to be taken seriously by your patients. College is meant to prepare us for the real world, and appearance plays a great deal in how people judge us in our line of work.

College students are generally adults and can wear their hair anyway they please. If it is long it may be because college tuition is so expensive they can not afford to have it cut shorter. Which would make long hair a sign of intelligence, showing they put their education first. This is just one of many possible reasons for long hair. I do not think hair makes or shapes a persons character.

I'm a guy in college with long hair. I'm in 6 extracurriculars and a double major. I have a 3.97 cumulative GPA. Would any of these be different if I had short hair? No. It doesn't affect things at all.

And for those who say it makes me look unprofessional: Long hair doesn't mean I look messy. I can pull it back and I look presentable.

I think personality affects hair length more than the other way around. If a guy wants long hair, then he'll grow out his hair. If he doesn't want it because it doesn't fit his personality, theres not much to stop him from getting it cut.
