I'm tired of reading topics bashing really great musicians. The fact is, there has got to be someone out there that strikes a chord with everyone. There has got to be someone that no matter what genre of music you listen to, you can't deny that they are a great musician. Therefore, I propose we award the Yahoo! Community "Undisputed Musical Genius" Award, so at least we can all agree for once. The rules:

i'd say the Beatles are as close as you're gonna get. different years for different people and styles, but they have a wide spectrum of fans.

Devics, they usually do sleepy songs, but they can do jazz, country and punk just as well. I also think they don't write bad songs.
