when like parralell lines are visible all over picture , looks like marks from rollers, I once had the same trouble with Lexmark and cleaning the rubber transport rollers fixed it , I have done the same on this printer but I still have the lines, I would appreciate any solutions from people who may have had same problem !!!

Cancel last note ! the lines or scratches are present on any size glossy paper, they are evenly spaced and run in direction that the paper feeds. The printer is only a week old and all ink tanks are full. I am waiting at present for response from HP tech support !!!

You mentioned that the lines run in the direction that the paper feeds? If that means that it runs parallel to the long edge of a Letter-sized paper, then this is caused by the rollers.
It is unlikely to be the starwheel (little pinch rollers that hold the paper down) because those marks are usually not so super obvious. The only other possible cause would be your rollers. But this is unlikely unless you have spilt ink on it since your printer is so new. In that case, you will need to clean off your rollers using a wet cloth.
If you mean the lines are parallel across the short edge of the letter-sized media, then this is caused by missing nozzles.
Action:
a) Take out your cartridge if it is a 2-cartridge photosmart printer.
b) It will likely be your color cartridge at fault since you are printing photos.
c) Use a clean lint-free cloth to wipe the contacts of the cartridge. Do not touch the printhead. Just wipe the contact pads (little square electrical contacts at the front side).
d) Use your printer setup to clean the cartridge and print the test page. You should see better results.
e) This can also be caused by a lack of ink as someone mentioned, but you said you had ink...
If your printer is one of those PhotoSmarts with 6 individual cartridges, and you are seeing the lines parallel to the short edge of the paper, then this printer needs to be sent back for repair because the printhead is not user replaceable. HP will have to send you a new printhead.

Had my HP 4080 for over two years - use it constantly - never seen a reason to clean the heads. It still prints both text and images as clearly as it did when it was new. Seems your mother might have screwed up her printer and she needs to get it checked out

Anything I say from this side is pure guessing from so many things it could be, but the most logical thing would be the cartridge and half the time the rollers should never get dirty that is rare. Your paper could be a culprit, but not likely. Check the cartridge./

It seems to be print setting problem. Go to printer print setting options and check whether border line printing is on for print sizes you have mentioned. Check it off and it will work normally.

you need to run a print head cleaning, you are actually supposed to clean an align the cartridges when you first install them. Your manual will tell you how. It will fix the problem.

you might have to change cartridges, or might've put them in the wrong direction or switch them incorrectly.
Do you have the right paper quality to print your pictures?
Have installed the HP printer CD that comes with it?
