Obviously you didn't ask if you should or should not have sex, so I'm sure you know that's the only 100% way to not get pregnant (in reference to everyone saying just to abstain). Anyways, there are many different types of birth control.
Condoms (male & female)
Contraceptive creams, foams, jelly & suppositories
Contraceptive Sponge
Depo-Provera (Hormonal Injections) & Lunelle- A monthly hormonal injection.
Diaphragm
The Pill
Spermicides
Emergency Contraception

If you are specifically talking about the Pill, then it really depends on your body and how you react. Personally, Yasmin has been my favorite, but it is a little pricey. Just talk to your gyno or health department worker to find out which is the best for you. Also check out the website below, it has a lot of useful information on birth control methods!

The best type of birth control is having no sex at all. But if you decide you really want to be on birth control their are many options. The pill is taken every day. If you are good with taking pills and taking them on time this is the best choice. If your not good with timing, the patch or nuva ring is the best bet. I have used the patch and the nuva ring ( patch for 2 years and the ring for the past few months). The patch has a lot of bad side effects (which I never encountered any) so now I use the ring. It is great. U put it in for 3 weeks and leave it out for 1. It simple and much better then having to remember to take pills. In the end it's all up to u and what your body accepts. Hope this helps

Well this all depends on what kind of results you want from your birthcontrol. first i will tell you that i am a very sensitive person and have tried many birth controls and i was on them for 4 years. i couldn't find anything that i could take without having bad depression. it just messed with my hormones too much. but everyone is different and it may not do this too you. (i had no other symptoms such as weight gain). I used loestrin and it worked the best (generic is microgestrin i used that) its a very low dosage and will be the most gentle on you. Its a pill. or if you want less periods you can try seasonale you get 4 periods a year with it. I would not recommend the shot which you have to get every three months. Its extremely harsh on your body and when you try to get off of it ,it will stay in your system for up to a year and your periods will be horrible for months(my friend blead for 3 months straight) you will also spot alot when first starting it. But its good for smokers because they can't take the pill. you can also use the vaginal ring(your not supposed to be able to feel it but ive never tried it i considered it though ) you only replace it once a month right before your period. good luck .

The pill is the best method. It's easy to take, and it is 99.9% effective when it is taken correctly. IUD's are also good. They are implanted inside you and can work for up to 10 years. For easier and more affordable options, condoms are good. They are 98% effective with perfect use and 85% effective with typical use. Go here to learn more:

P.S. kerrisonr does not know what she is talking about! If you are on the pill, you have no fertile days. You are properly protected against pregnancy if you take the pill every day.

Abstinence.

It sounds trite, but its true. Its the only 100% method.

If you're not able to abstain, I would refer you to your gynocologist.

Why not double or triple up your protection?

Take the pill to regulate your cycles so you'll have a firm grasp on your most fertile days (stay away from sex on those days, no matter WHAT protection you're on.)

Use a condom. Every time. Its your best protection against STDs. And a great protection against pregnancy.

Use a spermacide. Why not? Its one extra barrier against a baby and, unless you're one of the few people who are allergic, it can't hurt! Can only help!

MORE protection is better than not enough.

Get on the pill. (Its wonderful for most women!! I'm on Yaz, used to be on Yasmin. Before that Orthotricyclin. Loved them ALL! Cleared up my skin, dropped 50 lbs, regulated my cycles, etc)
Use a condom. Every time. Protect yourself from STDs
Use a spermacide. Better be over protected than under protected!! One extra 2 second step vs 20+ years of child rearin'!

:) Best of luck to ya on finding what works for you.

Apparently the question relates to married couple. Restraint and hence following ovulation cycle is the best.

Abstinence, yeah it's trite, but it is the only truly 100% effective method.
