Hiya,

Happy Holidays to everyone here! I'm thinking about enrolling into my local community college and I was just wondering, how long does it usually take to earn 15-college credits? I'm talking about going to school full-time. Lets say if I start school on Jan. 17 of '07, how soon can I get the 15-college credits? I was homeschooled during my high school years and the U.S. Marine Corps doesn't like homeschooled students. They classify homeschool students as "tier 2." I'm thinking about getting the 15-college credits to join the Marines as an infantryman...

Thanks!

At colleges that run on semesters (around 16 weeks, one in the fall and one in the spring), anywhere from 12 to 18 units per semester is considered full-time. Since most classes are worth three units, this means that taking four to six is "normal." So, to earn 15 you would need to take five classes. Depending on what classes these are, it shouldn't be too difficult. Fifteen is what most students take per semester.

Since the school I attend runs on semesters, I'm not certain enough to tell you how long it would take somewhere that operates on quarters. Sorry.

That's too bad that the Marines aren't big on homeschoolers. I was home schooled as well and my father was a Marine :) Good luck!

It depends on how many classes you're going to take in a semester. Each college class is usually worth 3 credits, so to get 15 in a semester, you would have to take 5 classes, which is a lot of work, which you have to be up to doing. Semesters usually last about 4 or 5 months. Besides that, If I were you I'd go to college instead of joining the Marines because it's not the greatest idea to go into the military in the time of a war, but if you do, I salute you nonetheless because that is a courageous decision.

You should be able to get 15 credits in one semester. 15 credits will take about 4, 5, or 6 classes.
