16 answers

Well Subaru makes 6 cars with formidable 0-60 and 1/4 mile times... they are:

2004 Subaru Forester 2.5 XT, Turbo with 0-60 in 5.3 and 1/4 mile in 13.8
2002 Subaru Impreza WRX - 5.7 and 14.4
2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi - 5.1 and 13.8
2006 Subaru Impreza 22B STi - 4.7 and 13.5
2003 Subaru Sti Type RA Spec C - 5.5 and 14.0
and the fastest which is the 2006 Subaru WRX STI - 4.5 and 13.0 with a manual

A stock 04 cobra svt gives a 0-60 time of 4.5 and a quarter mile time of 12.9

so basically it would be dead even and the only winner would be the one with worst driver error

nice comparison! 2 beasts

The 2004 Mustang Cobra weighed 3664 pounds and produced 385 horsepower.

The Subaru WRX sedan weighs 3085 pounds and produces 224 horsepower.

The Subaru WRX STi weighs 3263 pounds and produces 293 horsepower.

That gives us the following horsepower to weight ratios:

Cobra = 9.52 pounds/horsepower
WRX = 13.77 pounds/horsepower
STi = 11.14 pounds/horsepower

If everything else were equal, this means the Mustang would easily beat the Subie. However... There are other factors. The Subie will have much better traction off the line with AWD. It's lighter and probably more responsive in the corners. So depending on what you plan on doing most with the car, the Subaru might still be the better choice.

Cribbles' answer was pretty much the only one you should read.

All the other folks are going off or their gut...he is relying on hard performance data.

The difference is too close to call and will come down to Driver Skill. The Cobra will have a SLIGHT advantage in a straight line if the driver knows how to control the launch. However the Subaru is a much easier to launch car (hold revs at 5K...feather the clutch...keep it on the boost).

On any other racing test (slalom, auto-X or full track) the STi will be at a much higher advantage due to its better suspension and drive layout.

However, nothing beats doing donuts with your rear tires smoking like crazy...Cobras are hella fun but for my money I'd get the STi.

Guys, guys, guys... This is not a question that can be answered! There are too many details left out! Are we talking a drag race? 1/4 Mile? On a real road with curves? On a gravel road? In perfect weather? In Snow? Rain? Modified or Bone stock?

I think in the 1/4 Mile in perfect weather the Cobra has better times. The subaru is more of a real world car, add weather or twisty roads and it really is a world class performer (up there with Porsche's and Ferarri's).

The best answer that I can give is that in straight line speed the cobra is faster so if stop light racing in perfect weather is your thing then that's the faster car. If real driving, on real curvey roads in real weather is your thing, then the STI shines.

Yeah, sorry. The last two posters are correct.

That Cobra is just a little more powerful than the STI in a straight away. But with just a little bit of modding, the STI can beat the Cobra and the Cobra can't hang on a windy road with the STI.

Now, if you're talking about the WRX......then you'll need a lot more modding.

I got a 06 STI and raced a few Cobras off the line at empty intersections. Straight line the Cobra is just too powerful with all the torque, but on twist and turns the STI will win.

I would say the Subaru (Iam guessing WRX,STI, or somthing) would rip the mustang out of the hole but most Cobra owners don't mess around when it comes to performance.

Stock Subaru WRX STI, since it will have a head start from the AWD launch. You said stock but on most turbo charged cars you can up the boost for $20 with a manual boost controller... so I'd still give the edge to the WRX but I love turbos.

Are you kidding? The 'stang will beat a lot more than a Subaru. I assume that the Mustang Cobra is either a Shelby or a Saleen.

It all depends bro.

If its a track race, then the cobra will deffinelty win.

One thing i know for sure is that the mustang is nothing in twist and turns like the sti.

Straight race=mustang
anyother race= sti.
