1) Decide what it is that you get from repeating the habit -- pleasure? Enjoy rebellion?
2) Decide if the positive things outweigh the negatives, such as poor health or feeling guilty.
3) Monitor how often you do the habit. Keep a journal for a week or a month. Is it something you do when you're troubled about something else? Is it a way to cope with anxiety?
4) Decide if you can wean yourself down. If you do it every four hours, can you wait 4.5 hours? Five? Six? Or, if it's something you do every two days, can you wait 2.5 days? Extend the time you wait by 10% every three times. So, if you do it every three hours, wait three hours and 20 minutes for three times, then wait 3 hours and 40 minutes for three times.

If that doesn't help, then you can get counseling or possibly a support group.

I don't know if this question is about masturbation, but if it is, there is a section in the book Kosher Sex that might help you.

well u have to start out slowly....it's like telling a child who thinks it is right to steal that it's not ok but his friends tell him it is ok or a smoker who smokes and the smoking community tells him that its right but you know it's not right inside. you have to tell urself that it's wrong. slowly when u stop urself and dont give up...ur bad habit will go away because u feel guilty about it. when u give it up u will feel so much better. there will always be people who look at a good thing and consider it an act of good and then there are always those who look at good and think it's bad. do what you think is right because if you spend all ur time making people happy then ur going to spend ur life in turmoil. ask urself...what do you think is right? do u think ur habit is right or not? what dont u like about it? why? by asking these u will automatically begin to see distinctly why u feel guilty...get to the root of the problem.

I applaud you for being so honest with yourself and the public. I am a religious and God-fearing person. I suggest that if you only seek His devine help. Be earnest in your supplication, in due time, He will grant you the wisdom to know and do what is right in His eyes.
