I don't recommend trying to run your car on 100% vegetable oil. Vegetable oil suitable for running in a diesel engine has to be processed in order to prevent free fatty acids in the oil clogging the injectors over time. Used oil is worse because it contains a higher proportion of free fatty acids. Also vegetable oil doesn't contain any of the specialist lubricating additives that are required in diesel fuel to protect the high pressure injection systems used in modern cars.

What you can do is to run on a mixture of diesel and vegetable oil. Start off with 20% veg oil to 80% diesel and if your car runs OK then keep increasing the percentage. Personally I wouldn't go over 50% veg oil but this is a personal preference, give it a try and see how you get on.

A friend with an Italian restaurant here in NZ runs his Toyota Landcruiser and Ford Motorhome on a 50/50 blend of biodiesel/diesel. He has been for a couple of years now, and is a firm believer. Not difficult to filter. If you can access free used cooking oils, it is a very worthwhile exercises for minimising fuel costs. Check the very good link from aiguy.

Yes it can, you say recycled make sure it is filterd any contamination could block your fuel filter and it should be about a 30% mix in the winter and a 50% mix in the summer , the greator volume being desiel; a good idear is to start with a 10% mix and graduly increase the volume , that way yoy will find the best combination. also remember the more people do this and the exchequer will soon slap a tax on it. can,t have you getting round the rip of fuel tax can we

I often go to Cyprus and the restaurant owners there save their used olive oil to run their diesel twin cabs. Been told it must be diesel though

As other have said it is possible but the thing you have to watch out for in the UK is that you still would have to pay the taxman fuel duty on veggie oil

I really like both fruits and fruit and vegetables better, regardless how they look and taste. You desire a little of both.

Yes, and you can buy an additive to make it better, it will smell though, and you (should) declare it to the govenment so that they can charge you a tax on it! Try adding a gallon of the good stuff off a supermarket shelf!

Yes, for a short time - usually when you get pulled for a dip check on your fuel tank and you get done for excise duty evasion.
