Of course they will check the car. They will look for flaws so that they can give you the lowest value for your car. If the dealer is doing that push pull or tow deal then don't worry about it though. Clean your car up and steam clean the engine. It may save you a couple hundred bucks.

No, not if you do it after you agree on a price for the new car.

Go to the dealership (without your car) swing the best deal possible on the new car--tell them you are unsure if you will be trading in your old car or not. After you agree on the price, then find out how much they would give you for your car--have the mileage, options, etc. ready.

If the price is agreeable to you, tell them you will trade the car in. Bring it in the day you sign the final papers for the new car. Car salespeople will do anything to close a deal.

Dealers may do a Carfax on your vehicle, most just look in the Black Book and do a quick walk around. Dealers can spot paint work a mile away and will dig a bit deeper if they see any.

Clean your vehicle before trading it in.. They also like to see that you care about a vehicle they have to resell.

Yeah, they check for anything that would bring the value of the car down, even lights. If they think it will cost them money to repair or replace, then they will deduct it from the value of your vehicle. But if there is something that you feel like you can fix temporarily until you get off the lot with your new one, go for it. No harm in screwing the people who screw us everyday!

Depending on what year make model, they usually check it to see how much it's worth. Even if it's junk, you can still trade it in.

Now if they were planning on reselling it, then they do a UCD, but that has nothing to do with you trading it in.
