Because about the 20th century B.C.E., contrary to God's command to spread out and "fill the earth," humans made an effort to control all society at the Plains of Shinar, in Mesopotamia, and began building the religious Tower of Babel. Language diversity originated when God confused their common language, thwarting their dangerous and hurtful plans.—Genesis 1:28; 11:1-9.

I'll give you an example. You can take it from there.
Japan is one country with the national language being Japanese. Basically, everyone speaks Japanese, but there are many dialects around the country. The Tokyo dialect is the standard dialect that is on TV, and it is the dialect that is taught in Japanese classes. If you go to Osaka or Kyoto, you will hear different dialects, not entirely different from Tokyo dialect but somewhat different and a bit difficult to understand for one who knows only standard Japanese. If you go out into the countryside, like Fukui or farther north to Akita or Aomori, you begin to get dialects that seem almost like other languages. There are some words in common, and the grammar is basically the same, but these are very hard to understand. It seems that the farther you get from Tokyo, the more different the Japanese.
Now, why would you think that Japanese developed differently in different areas around the country? And why are there so many different languages?

language is the expression of feeling and thoughts.
Across the globe human found it different to express the same and there were people to invent the different kind of languages.
In India recently one person has invented new types of language
where one can use facial expression only to convey/communicate and express the thought. He demonstrated the same on one TV channel and communicated with his wife who was also learning from him.
So language is the different kind of expression across the globe and every language has different LETTER to write the same.
