I have been a dedicated follower of the nextactor website at www.nextactor.com and I am impressed by the number of films that they make with their students, giving a platform to the students to show their acting skills. This passion is not found in any other houston schools and I strongly recommend next actor studio to anyone who is trying to get into acting. The website is www.nextactor.com and is full of friendly and knowledgeable staff. That is in my opinion the best film school in Houston

Next Actor is the best film school in Houston if you are looking to get into films per se. If you want modeling or commercials, you need to look somewhere else. I am still taking editing classes at Next Actor after finishing my filmmaking course because I want to make my own film and edit it. I got to meet very nice people who are willing to volunteer in my film and we are working towards a script that I have written with my friend. The best part of being in this school is I get to use their equipments, actors, experience, studio etc for free and I get to do my rehearsals with the actors. Its teaching me a lot about film cameras, angles, lights, techniques. I am sure an acting student will learn a lot also as they get these handson training which are important. To go to college for so many years and learn the theoretical part and do theatre is good if you are not pursuing a career. If you want to become an actor with a substantial resume, you must "work" in films so you can "build a resume". No one cares which college you have gone to become an actor. They care what movies you have done, if your movies have gone to festivals, if you are on imdb, if you have a demo reel to show, if you know how to feel the character and become the character and get the right emotion on cue. Directors, and I say because i have worked in the set as interns with several, will not ask you where you have taken classes when they audition you. They will see how believable you are and that you know how to hit the mark and that you are not wasting their time. Then they hire you and if you have a great college by your name but no knowledge or hands on training, they will fire you without an explanation because every second is costing them money. At this school, you learn to appreciate art and also know what to do when you are in front of a real camera, not just in the class. If you have any question, you can contact me directly. I am still taking classes there and I am very happy with my progress.

I second your opinion. I have taken acting and filmmaking classes at nextactor and it is the best school in houston. I have learned a lot about different filmmakers, their styles, the acting techniques, camera angles, lights etc, and I also educated myself on foreign films and independent films that I was so not aware of. The school gave me equipments to make my first short film which is very exciting and I auditioned at the studio with student actors to get the best of what I wanted out of my screenplay. Its exciting when actors, filmmakers and other crew come together to make a film thats being viewed by several people in the festivals. I highly recommend next actor to anyone in Houston who is trying to learn and continue on a career of acting and behind the scene.

To become a WORKING ACTOR, you do not have to go to accredited universities and waste FOUR years and loads of money. You usually take avocational classes with instructors who are also working actors and are up in the game and know the business as well as the craft of acting. I have taken classes at Next Actor and learned a lot about behind the scene while honing my skills as an actor. I have had professional theatre background from my childhood and joined this studio to get into film acting as my agent suggested I take oncamera training. I was lucky to know this studio and fortunately worked in several of their short films as well as feature films and I am on imdb.com. I recommend this studio to anyone who is looking to make a mark as a working actor. There are many schools in Houston that teach acting but they only concentrate on commercials instead of film acting because the teachers in other schools have not done films nor are they filmmakers. Here, the teachers work in movies like GUMMO, STRIKING RANGE, TARNATION etc and many indies which help people like us to learn from their experience that they share with us.

Try to find a better school for film acting (does UH offer anything?) NextActor is not an accredited college as far as I know. You need a school with substance on the resume.
