Is this a house, or an apartment? Do you get hot(ter) water out of your bathroom and kitchen sinks? Is it a newer mixing valve for the tub/shower? Is it a Moen, Pfister, American Standard, etc. fixture?
If you have hot water in the sinks, it may be the cartridge in the mixing valve (in the guts of the handle assembly to turn the water on and adjust the temp.) If it is newer and a name brand, they usually cover those parts for as long as you own the home. Call them and ask for technical assistance; look up the manufacturers website for info, etc.

The pick-up tube in your water heater may be broken off or clogged. If either is the case, you will need to shut off the water supply to the water heater and access the tube by disconnecting the hot water supply to the house. This connection is located on top of the water heater and you can tell which is the hot by touching each pipe. After dis- connection, pull up on the fitting. there should be a long tube (usually pvc) connected. If there isn't there's the problem. You can find a replacement tube at most any plumbing supply or home improvement store.

Two reasons I can think of regarding the hot water heater: either the thermostat on the heater is turned down too low; or the heating element has gone out.

Generally electric water heaters have two elements that heat. If one goes bad, you will still get a little hot water and warm water. You need to change out the elements.

Simply adjust the thermostat on your water heater. I also find that I need to do this at the beginning of winter and then I can drop it down a bit at the onset of summer.

check your hot water heater, sounds like the heating element may be bad. then if this is not the problem then you may have something wrong with the pipes, such as something that is blocking the water that is coming to your shower. Or you could also have a leak.

You don't have enough information here. Is this a house, an apartment? how big is the heater? how many are using it? does it serve more then one unit?
Without knowing,...turn up the temperature control.

I don't know if I would crank the hot water heater up to high, it might need new heating elements if its electric, gas it might need to be drained and refilled.
