At first I thought that this was kind of an extreme position, but recently Israel announced the construction of new settlements in the West Bank. If government money (and to a certain extent American tax dollars) is being used to build new settlements, will Olmert be thrown out for this kind of extreme position?

there are those that have protested the settlements and olmert.
they will do what they want and no one will dare say anything against them. the problem is there are israelis and pals that treat each other as less than human. until that changes there will be no peace. british colonialism has created most of the problems in the ME.

I have no idea how many Israelis want to fully annex the occupied territories. But I do feel that allowing those territories to be called "occupied" has been a public relations disaster. That land was won in battle, just like almost every other square inch of dry land on earth. It could be said, every bit as correctly, that Prussia is German land, occupied by Poland, that Vietnam is French land, occupied by Vietnamese, or that India is British land, occupied by Indians. That list could go on, and it would include every country on earth, if we go back far enough.
