i read it last year ( i was in 7th grade) with my LA class.
i found it rather difficult to read,
but once i got the hang of it,
i loved it.
its so tragic,
and teaches what can happen when one
becomes obsessed.
what are your views about it?

I read it many, many years ago. Despite what Hollywood would have you believe, it really is one of the most tragic books that a person can read. Imagine being unable to identify with anyone, not knowing if you have a soul, or even knowing where you belong. It's a great tragedy, and nothing like the horror story many believe it to be. It's a great read.

I find it hard to believe that 7th and 8th graders are being asked to relate to material like "Frankenstein"! Then again, I remember having to read Shakespeare and Dickens in 7th and 8th grade and not understanding either at the time. I think "Frankenstein" is a beautifully written, deliciously dark look at what it means to be "different," to be misunderstood, the consequences of lacking compassion, and what it's like to play God--and lose.

I read it in an 8th grade summer school class. Our class had trouble understanding it too. But once we kind of understood it, it actually was a wonderful story. How it was like a story inside a story inside a story, and the real version of how frankenstein's creation was created. Unlike the movies and tv shows. =]

I've never read the full version, but I did read the watered down version meant for younger kids. From my memory, it was well-written and interesting, but it scared me half to death, and I've never read the full version because of that.
It is a good source for the views on science that people had in the 19th century though.

Yes, I read it several years ago. It really made me feel sorry for the monster.
