There are at least a couple type of racism and discrimination. The type where one group ALWAYS has to find another group to look down on, so that they feel superior. Another type of discrimination is avoiding cultures that seem for the most part unpleasant to you. This can also be said of just avoiding individual people you don't like. So I think we all have a bit of discrimination built into us. Actually it is often a compliment to have someone say that you have "discriminating tastes" (in wine, food, clothing, automobiles, friends even, I suppose)

Yes, we are all the human race, but the fact that we speak different languages, have different cultures, have different social norms, and the physical differences of skin color, physical build, etc., makes many people suspicious of others that are different from themselves.
Unfortunately, people speak in derogatory terms about others, in front of their children, and children, in loving and TRUSTING their parents, pick up on these ideas and learn to discriminate and hate others even though they don't really KNOW them.
It is an unfortunate fact the human race for many to act this way.

Racism and discrimination has been going on sense the beginning of man. I agree with you, I don't understand it either, it's senseless. But that is why "man" is "man". I, unfortunately know that it will always be. As for me, I alone can't change things, but I don't allow other people to influence my beliefs that I have "Black", "Hispanic" or "Other" friends. People see me with them laughing and joking, and some realize, that, "hey, they must be ok". We, ALL share the the same emotions, wants, needs and desires. Be proud and accept all.

I agree. I see people say/do such horribly hateful acts without even thinking twice about it. And I'm appalled because I could never imagine myself treating people like that no matter what race they are.

It doesn't matter who you are, what color you are, nationality you are ect. There is always going to be at least one person who is gonna downgrade you no matter what. Truth is that I think these people are afraid to learn about something so instead they would rather make fun of people.

I wish I knew the answer to that but I'm also sick and tired of racism and hatred. I dunno why some people are so hang-up with other people's religion, race, creed, color, etc.. Instead of focusing our effort to unite the humanity, some of us are blinded -sigh- by racism that they only highlights other people's negative side.

I do not hate anyone, however people hate me for the color of my skin, my gender, my religion, my sexual orientation, my country, my politics, my private thoughts, my spoken thoughts,
the way I dress, the way I dont dress, the way I dance the way I cant dance, the way I can sing, or cant sing ... Our ability to find the worst in us has become our own worst enemy

here's some fun to think through
most hate what they don't understand or wont ?
its easy to hate when you cant get pass your own insecurities and inadequacies so they hate judge and hide,
the funny thing is that with the world being open to all (Internet and TV)
the media makes it worst with its slanted views and bias characterization

Fear. Fear of what they do not understand.
Ignorance. They're trapped by the social norms and do not recognize anything outside the tiny box of their definition of normal.
