i love how people like mark d. answers very boldly and confidently. lol. but that is wrong. eisenhower won the presidential election with his "i like ike" campaign. clinton is also incorrect.

I'm thinking Ford, he came in when Nixon was impeached and I don't think he ran again next time around. I don't recall him having been an elected official before but I could be wrong.

II knew the answer all along but it is in the news today Garold Ford.(because of Mr. Fords death at the age of 93) He became the President after Nixon resigned. He replaced Agnew because the Vice President went to prison....Ford pardoned Nixon and therefor Nixon got out of Prison time.

There is only one truly national election, and that is for the President of the United States (though the electoral college) and his vice president. Everything else is a state election, even US congressman. Gerald Ford was never elected President as he took over when Nixon resigned, and he was not Nixon's vice president when Nixon was elected. However, he did win state elections when he was a member of the House of Representatives.

Before he was elected president, Zachary Taylor, the 12th President, ( 1849-50) was an Army general, when he received the nomination of the Whig Party, and was elected president. He had never served any other political office, and had never even voted in an election.

Herbert Hoover served in the Cabinet as Secretary of Commerce under Harding and Coolidge before his election (1929-33), but had never run for elected office before.

Eisenhower had been a general before his election (1953-61, but had never been a politician or served in public office before his nomination by the Republican party.

technically Ford was the only president to step into the presidency - never having been elected -
he took over when Nixon left -
however - some people would argue that Bush Jr - not senior - stole the elections thereby making him the second president to BE president without actually being elected -

There have been more a number of them. The most recent was Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Harumph! Okay, I give. You caught me. I assumed you were asking which President had never PREVIOUSLY won any national or state elections. I goofed for not paying close attention to your question. Happy?
