It's "pierced."
Yeah, actually, getting your cartiledge (not sure if I spelt that right; very hypocritical) pierced hurts like a *****. It's actually going through something, whereas getting your lobes pierced is just soft flesh. I don't know about belly buttons, sorry.
It's worth it if you can keep it in ALL the time (it'll close in a very short time if you don't) and wash it with disinfectant quite a lot. When I got my cartiledge pierced it bled quite a bit and hurt very badly, but I liked the end result.
Good luck making your decision. Above all, go to someone who actually knows what their doing. That should make it as painless as possible.

I got my cartilage pierced when I was in the 7th grade. It doesn't hurt at all. I got my belly button pierced last May and it only hurt for seriously like 4 seconds. Not bad enough that I cried or screamed though. Just kinda stung.

Getting your cartilidge doesn't hurt anymore then just getting your ears pierced normally. But getting your belly button pierced does hurt. For the next 24 hours it hurts to bend over, and when it gets infected the pain is horrible.

I got the cartilage on the top of my ear pierced. It got really infected and hurt really bad. But then I've talked to other people who had it done and they didn't have any problems. Depends on the person I guess.
