Right now; Awful.
From 1993-2002 he was one of the best offensive catchers in baseball history.
After his injury, he hasn't been the same player past 2002.

At this stage in his career, the DH is just where he should be. After catching all those years, his knees are aching, I'm sure. As much as I dislike the DH on principle, it is the way for Piazza to continue playing. And hey, if they need a catcher or first baseman, he can step into those roles. He's 38 now and not a lot of time left. He's on verge of being a shoe in for the HoF - maybe a year or two at DH will put him in with no problems. He's been good for the game.

Piazza has always been overrated. He was a decent hitting catcher but now is just a very average player at best. He never throws anybody out. I would love to see Roger Clemens railroad him at the plate and make him drop the ball. The only reason Piazza ever got into the league was because of Tommy Lasorda. Fat, lasagna, eatin, MF.

Mike Piazza is getting too old, and he isn't as good as he used to be when he was on the New York Mets in the 2000 World Series, when we (the Yankees) crushed the Mets!

Piazza is good. He should be with Johnny Bench and Roy Campanella, 2 great catchers being great hitters. Although he is not doing the best in his career right now, he was a feared hitting machine earlier in his career. Catcher is one of my favorite positions, and yes I have played catcher. So a great hitting catcher would catch my eye really fast.

I'm an A's fan, and we just signed him to DH in place of Frank Thomas who our imcompetent ownership let walk without much of a fight. I think Piazza was the only choice we had, but he's not much of a power hitter anymore, and that's really what we needed. He was the best offensive catcher in baseball back in the 90's...but I'm not very excited about him now.

Piazza is only good for DH in this late stage of his career, he is a liability on the defensive end, "can't throw out runner efficiently" however, he still got some bats and power left, DH is the best for him now.

Piazza in his prime was a deadly hitter. He's slowing down but he can still hit a bit.

If you want the truth, he was a below average catcher. The reality of it is that if not for his hitting ability his major league career would have be short lived. He would have been perfect for the American League as a DH but DH's don't make the hall of fame. I've always believed he has been vastly overrated but since he hold the record for home runs by a catcher he will most likely be elected to the hall.

Was a lousy catcher but a great hitter. Average player right now. Should have moved to 1st base ages ago.

That depends on what you mean, for his career he has been an outstanding catcher. Now at the tail end of his career he is still a good hitter, but not as good of a catcher overall.
