Ford was considered a lame duck president, he was a lame duck in the Senate as well. He was a peaceful, go along with the party man. He was very intelligent but was also a wise man for himself, he knew any waves at all and he would be out on his ear, and he did not run policy it was ran for him. Just really a puppet and there are many of those in politics, that is why they call it the gravy train a bunch of dogs and few are the Lead Hounds. He pardoned Nixon because it was good for the Country.
And I agree with that even though Nixon was a fanatical maniac, it would have been bad so soon after an assassination of a president and then the fiasco in Nam to show that we had an unstable government. After all everyones government is unstable, but not everyone was honest as we were to clean house, so he made the decision wisely but was certainly good for the Republican party and he was told to do it. No matter how mad you get at our country you still have to realize the right way to go to save all not just fly off the handle. Also he gave amnesty to all the Draft Dodgers from America, because the War was wrong in many ways, but not as wrong as some think, but the question was since we lost so many men in that War and it was stradegically run like a botched abortion case, we might as well give them their freedom. So he did what was good for he country. He was not a bad president he was just a figure head, and nothing else. He is survived by his son Steven who is a nice guy and his wife Betty, did a lot for this country with her clinic. She helped with her husband to promote healing amongst the many in politics with drinking and drug problems created by the stress and strain of this maddening world and personally Betty Ford was a great first Lady for doing just that, she washed her laundry in public and God Bless her and their family.

It put the exclamation point on Nixon's sentence, "When the president does it, then it's not illegal," setting the precedent for Bush's justifications.
