I have driven the Chevrolet U-VA. It looks very wide and has the longest wheelbase of all the hatchbacks sold in india. It has a 1.2L engine which is not based on the Aveo's engine. This new engine has a stong responsiveness which is appreciated in city-driving. It makes you think that the engine has more power. However the engine lacks mid-range and high-speed performance. It is only on the highway-at high speed overtaking- that you feel the lack of power. Handling is balanced while ride quality is commendable. Feels like a large car, much like the Aveo. And it must also be noted that the gearshift quailty has improved over the Aveo.
Coming to the interiors, there is abudant space. The front seats are very supportive but the rear seats are very hard. There is immense legroom. Infact, this is the largest hatch-back,even larger than the Getz. You sit taller and feel that the cabin has a large glass area. The qualiy of plastics are better than in the Getz but are boringly grey. But the execution is excellent, with a circular theme carried all over.
If you need a five seater family car which will be used mostly in the city, the U-VA makes sense. But let me tell you, the boot space is severely limited due to intrusion of suspension struts.
Maintanance should be easy on the pocket as with most GM vehicles. Now to the comparison part,
Swift: A better car to drive, looks sportier, has good quality interiors, better fuel-economy, less space, less airy cabin.
Zen Estilo: compact,fuel-efficient,maintance cost is less, stylish to some but not to all, plastics are acceptable, strict four seater, engine not very responsive, handling is not as good as the old one.
Santro: Hyundai's service is good, Reliable, fuel economy is not bad either, peppy engine, resale value, ride at the rear is poor, quality interiors.
palio: Fiats are not to everyone's tastes, A new Palio1.1 is coming next year, Ride, solid build etc are its forte.
Wagon R:everything that the Zen Estilo is. Plastics are of inferior quality.
Alto: Small, Cramped, not the ideal family car, but price, fuel economy, service costa are reasons to buy one.
Indica: Spacious, good ride, price are all tempting resons to buy one. But reliability, quality and refinement are key areas that TATA should look into. Not the complete product.
Actually the U-VA ha sthe Getz and the Swift as its main rivals. The car is priced between the swift and the getz and this should work well. Let me also correct you by telling that, the Chevy U-VA is not the first hatchback from GM. That credit goes to the Opel Corsa Sail launched a couple of years ago.

From the prices they've announced it seems to be awesome, though from the review I saw on TV I did not like the cheap dashboard. But from a practicality point of view it seems pretty good. And the 1.2 liter engine may not be great fun to drive but it will be economical. Prices appear to be the same or less than Swift and much lower than Getz.
This cannot be compared to the Zen, Alto or the WagonR, which are pathetically small cars for the price they charge.
If price is your biggest concern, and you still want space, nothing comes close to the Indica Xeta (all versions). More power and space/ rupee than anyone else.

Wow. GM Stock is at about $26/share. We (the Government with our Money) paid $54/share. They still owe us about $60 Billion. If we factor in their Debt, they are not #1 by any factor you can imagine. In what way are they #1? Total numbers of cars sold? Customer Satisfaction? Earnings? I don't see that the would meet any of those. Can you be more specific in which area they are #1? Also, in response to your first Assertion, IF we had let GM Fail, Ford and Chrysler production and sales would have INCREASED to fill the void, thus they would have bought many of GM's facilities and hired their laid-off workers. Ford would have EASILY moved to #1 in any area by picking up the slack from GM's poor management practices that led to Failure. That is the way the system is supposed to work without Government Intervention.

If u don't mind the Chevy Badge.which is essentially GM, it's alright.provided the price is right........if it's costlier than the Swift....it's doesn't make a sensible buy, as the engine is smaller n not as eager as the Swift....if u plannin on buyin 1.wait a lil while, there r some really good hatchbacks comin next year......esp from Fiat........
