wear nice dress dress pants, or nice jeans.
and matching top. especially something with luxe fabrics like velvet, satin or cashmere -- work great for semi-formal parties. If your evening party is casual, you can even mix jeans with a dressier blouse or sweater.
do your hair more differently than you normally would, or just spend more time on it :) so it looks its best.
