You're right. The guiding rule that people should live with is the line from To Kill A Mockingbird, "you've got to put yourself in someone else's shoes." They are just thinking of themselves, being selfish and rude. You just have to realize that you are in control of your own emotions and not those of others. You live life generously and compassionately, and that's all you can do and hope things turn out to be the best. If people are rude to you then just turn the other cheek and go on with your life. Tell yourself that it's not personal and it's their problem, not yours.

Because we are all a little selfish most of the time. If you want people to consider your feelings, you must live with the monks for a while.
If you are considerate of others, others will consider you.
If you consider other's feelings and they don't consider yours, then they are not considerate. Go somewhere where people consider you. You are flexible. You are mobile. If your environment does not have a place for you, you find an environment that does in due time. Consider your expenses. Consider your happiness. Consider all and the make a choice.

Our society is primed for 'fast' everything - fast food, fast communication, fast responses. our seflish and insensitive sides are allowed to flourish under the conditions generate such as these forums... you can type a response immediately and not actually have to see how that affects someone else! The "me" generation are very self-centred as a totality - not saying that all people are like that but the conditioning for that has been programmed into our society. I'm hoping and praying that the new X generation will be able to turn this trend around - bring back manners!

On the average, I don't think people suck so badly.
We are creatures of our own self-interest, but I'm guessing that whatever put you in a foul enough mood to right this question is that you're not getting what you want either. Real altruism is a rare thing. You need to come up with a somewhat more specific question, maybe we can help you with what's really wrong.

two things... people don't suck, and not everyone is mature enough to realize it.
if you are young and going through a period where this seems to be the case.. try to get a little perspective and know you aren't alone, now or ever, as many many many people have gone through that and are now old enough to laugh about it.
My real message is- things will get better. Hard to do, but trust me.

I think that is just the way this world has become.
Dont give up on people - there still is some good people around who do think of others feelings - I like to think of myself as one of those people

People are simply one dementional man! Its really true. They look one way and people who are outside of their veiw aren't people. I dress a certain way and i get so many stares. I cant go to a grocery store without someone saying i shouldnt dress a certain way. I go places and people stare at me. I know and have known how it feels. They dont care...

because truly caring people usualy get their own feelings trrampled upon so often by other, mean people, that they become reluctant to show feelings anymore. There are a lot of good people still out there, but you have to dig deep to find it, sometimes.
