electric about 2 hours for a full tank but about 30-45 for the water at the top about 5 gallons worth

I'd say about 5 hours to get all the water heated. However, you can have enough for a quick shower in about 30 min. There's a thermostat on it which is sometimes marked in degrees. I imagine your's just says hi, med, lo. Try med or med hi, hi is probably too hot
