There is no harm in flirting. You just need to not go to far with it. Harmless flirting or just being extremely nice not only gets you a better tip, it makes the person feel important and it also makes you feel good that you brightened another person's day. Keep it lite and always SMILE you might be the best part of the day for someone. I cocktail waitress and my customers return to see me because I add to the atmosphere and even the grumpy ones like me though they don't admit it. I make AWESOME tips by the way and I'm 54.

I think that your employer should be allowed to tell you how to interact with the customers, as long as it is within reason. If you worked at an office, for instance, your boss might ask you to answer the phones a certain way.
I, myself, wouldn't work at a job that made me flirt with the customers, because I'm married. But if you were told this rule when you were hired, it was up to you to choose whether or not you would be willing to do this. You didn't have to take the job if it makes you uncomfortable.
If you don't like it, quit. Otherwise, do what they hired you to do.

I worked at a bar, and the "fugly" ones as you said, were usually the ones that gave me the best tips. Be nice to everyone, not everyone can be as beautiful as you???

I'm sure the ugly ones will probably tip better than the cute ones if you do flirt with them. Think about it; how many people don't flirt with them because they're ugly. Then when you do it's an ego boost and then mo money for yo wallet, ya dig?

Don't be so shallow. It's part of your job. Why not flirt with someone who's un-attractive to you. Its not like you're actually going to do anything with them. You are working and when your shift is over, then you can stop flirting. You aren't going to make any money being like that.

If the batender hit on me I would slap him you are there to do a job which is to serve booze I would also turn the club into the state liquor board maybe if the owner could lose his licence he would not tell his employees to do it and who gave you a brain to decide who is worth it? I'm sure their money is not eeewww.

People have different definitions of flirting...

You do not have to shake your rack...

Just don't stand back there looking like you just got dumped.

Smile- and be very friendly that's more than enough.

I think you should be friendly to everyone, how much so is up to you. If you're nice, you'll get good tips and make customers happy. It's not like they are telling you to give your number out to everyone.
