Emo is short for emotional. Emo is mostly common within teens, it means you're very sensitive to things, they're usually people who cry a lot, wear a lot of eye liner, they like to cover their face with their hair, wear all black, and sometimes cut themselves. Of course this is an over generalization, but this is what my high school would classify "emo" as.

many belive that emo means depressed but emo doesn't only mean sad or depressed it simply means emotional so there could be really really happy emo kids and then sad depresed emo kids emo just means any form of emotionalness emo when referring to music also means scream wich is a mix of hard screaming rock and depressed music
