i think its so hilarious about how everyone is calling it Mac n trash...cause that proves two things: one, their STUPIDITY, and two, goes to show that they have had no experience with a Mac at all...first of all, i have NEVER EVER seen a Mac crash in my life, and they certainly won't in this new generation of Mac...second of all, Mac's are the best and easiest computer on the face of the planet for many reasons, most of which ilsted below:

-They are easy and fun to use...everything is conveniently placed in the OS itself..none of this program files BS and save file as... or save to... the Mac just saves time and when something is Emptied from your TrashCan, then its gone for good, no uninstalling crapola or anything its gone forever
-The Internet and everything else is virtually inpenitrable...NO SPYWARE, MALWARE, VIRUSES, SPAM, POPUPS, the Mac distinguishes, when downloading files, what is a program and what is a file, hence making it a thousand times safter than a PC that just willingly downloads anything without consideration
-THE COMMERCIALS ARE 100% TRUE, speak with a Mac representative or go on their website
-The Mac is nearly flawless, it never runs slow unless you mess it up, and always keeps everything organized and has incredible safety
-It supports many many external hardware tools without software because of all the Mac comes with to read
-They are upgradebale, but you won't need to really, because they come with basically everything you need
-YOU DON'T NEED TO BUY ANY ANTISPYWARE, ANTIVIRUS, OR FIREWALL PROGRAMS because all of that is built into the OS itself, leaving you worry free
-Once you go Mac, you'll never go back...yes going from windows to Mac is a bit tricky, but once you realize how the Mac OS is, and how its setup, you'll sit there staring at it wondering why you hadn't switched a while ago

all in all, the Mac is a fine choice, as it can do fun and games, with iDVD and iMovie HD, preloaded latest version iTunes, and iChat, and can run Microsoft Office and Entourage for all business needs...you could run Windows on your Mac, but for what reason? you're trying to leave the extra baggage behind =)...and for anyone who wants to challenge what i say, go ahead and try, i bet my MacBook will beat out your laptop especially if its a Dell piece of trash

It's amazing how many people who know nothing about the Mac think they can answer this question. The fact is, Mac users own Macs because they have experience with both Macs and PCs while PC users own PCs because that's all they know about.

Get a Mac. You'll be amazed at how much better they are. If for some reason you aren't, you can run Windows on any of the new Intel Macs, or sell it and get a PC.

It's scary to read all of the answers posted here. No offense to anyone, but if you have true experience with both platforms then you wouldn't say half of what they say about Windows or Macs. My favorite is the one from the person who's waiting until someone else makes Macs for competition. That's like saying you want to wait until someone else starts making Dells so you can see competition. Macs are PCs, Dells are PCs, HPs are PCs, etc... They are all in competition.

Macs run Windows and OS X - that's the only difference - the hardware is not made by Apple. At least 90% of it comes from other people - Hitachi, Toshiba, Seagate all contribute hard drives to Apple and the other companies as well.

What makes Macs unique is their incredible compact and well made configurations and running OS X, which is what most people associate with a Mac, but that's an OS, not a computer. Despite what someone said above, OS X cannot run on a PC without it being hacked to do so. It's not easy, nor advised. However, you can run Windows legally on any Mac sold today.

So what else makes Macs different? Why switch? Well, if you decide to run OS X, you'll see a wold of difference. Both platforms let you do anything and everything. Edit photos, video, email, 3D creation, Flash, web development, programming, java, etc... It's how they do it that's different. So this whole thing about them being more expensive and less software is bogus and is nothing more than an uninformed perception.

The true advantage comes from not having to deal with viruses on a Mac (as of today, there are zero in the wild). Also no spyware, adware, and so on. They're innately more secure than Windows XP due to how OS X was built. The upcoming Windows Vista will be adding much of what OS X has been doing for years.

As for cost - again, they are priced the same as any other PC configured with the SAME hardware. Problem is, people think they're clever and go to Dell and configure a matching processor, video card, and hard drive and think it matches a Mac. There's a bit more to it than that to get the specs the SAME. People believe Macs cost more because they don't really offer a budget line. The same way BMW doesn't have a cheapo model car, Apple's lowest end Mac is fairly loaded with hardware. So sure, if you say the cheapest Mac isn't as cheap as the cheapest PC, you're right, but that's because that cheap PC comes with integrated graphics, a low-speed hard drive, and maybe a Celeron chip. You get what you pay for and if that's enough for you and you want to save money then go for it.

And there are many things that OS X offers that aren't available for Windows yet. For instance, my hard drive failed recently as they do and I had OS X installed on my 4GB thumb drive as a backup that I always have with me. While traveling I was able to just plug in that drive and boot from it gaining full use of everything again quickly. No Windows machine can do this without special 3rd party software and some techy tweaking. Macs come with a utility that make 100% mirrored backups of your whole drive built in to the OS. Windows doesn't... This perk may have saved my job as I was on a work trip. There are a lot of things like this that are priceless to me and I think this is how computers should work.

Hopefully Vista will offer things like this, but that's still a couple months away and that's still an IF.

If you want more, I'd be happy to share. Contact me and let me know.

I used mac a few times Im no expert on it believe me. I have been a PC user all my life. The first time I use Mac it was exciting. In a Mac you can do videos that is basicaly all I know how to do with a Mac. Maybe defragment. Mac has some good graphics.. The new OSX does the older version wasn;t so good.

Mac can provide you with some good and new experience. compare to a PC it is diffrent. With mac;s now a day the new OS X 10.0 and greater is much better at preformance compare to Mac OS X 9.0 and below they were much slower.

If you switch to Mac it is fine you will just need to learn some new stuff over agian. You can cary some basic PC knowlege into mac when you need to do something.

I want to consider Mac someday to play with. Right now I am avoiding Mac or Apple because there is only one company that makes it. I sort of like competition and verity if you know what I mean. I want to be able to build my own personal Mac one day instead of buying it strait as the company requirements says.

Switch to mac! I switched about four years ago and have never regreted switching. I don't have computer frustrations anymore, which has made my life sooo much better. I am a graphic artist, and using a mac really helps out a lot. Using the iLife programs are a breeze, also.

Some people get frustrated when using a mac for the first time, and therefore hate macs. It takes a couple days to get used to it, but life is a lot easier, and no worrying about viruses :D

What ever anyone of these people say, get a mac. Why? Because you can run windows AND mac on macbooks and Imacs (which is what are for sale in the stores right now).

You can get a mac and use windows on it. But once you try the Mac os for awhile, you will never switch back to windows (although if you wanted you could because you will have windows on it too.)

Very cool GO MAC!!!

it is a good choice stick with it... you can also get windows to run on the new mac's by doing a dual boot system, Like everything else there is a learning curve but if you have window you can always flip back.

problem with the mac's is the software is expensive, and you can't get it cheap anywhere,

now there is another way around this, that is move over to Linux with your old PC where everything is for free.... you can download a live DVD of linux and try it out. you don't install it you run it from the DVD.... you can test out every program and even get on the internet from the DVD...

On the dvd is every program you will ever need.
here is a few office. burning cd's and dvd, music., what ever your into is on the dvd. if you decide you like it then you can install it after you download the 5, cd's or the dvd version of novell suse linux 10.2.

try it goto.... http://www.opensuse.org

The Intel Mac's can have Windows running on them, not many cons. You just can't get a low end system. For what you say you want it's a great choice. Dreamweaver should be avaliable. xCode is a great IDE, free too.

If you have been using a pc for a number of years it might take a little bit of getting used to but if you are new to using computers its fairly easy to get used to.Although there are a few major things that are quite different but there are alot of people that swear by a mac but also alot of pc users that swear by pcs.. I have used both.. really doesnt matter to me as long as its a computer and does what i want it too...its personal choice.. they are both good.
