I like that Tim Duncan answer but I think the question is 'today' and Duncan is not the defending champ and did not get farther than nash and suns who I will go with right now.
As for the guy who said K.G... Might be the saddest most ignorant comment I've ever heard. I'm serious. Do you watch basketball? I don't want to get into it but, really, it shocked me. And Amare? You guys are watching Sportscenter not basketball. Did any of you even play this game? Where are some of these coming from?
I can understand a Wade, Kobe, Labron, even Melo but some of these others????

It has to be Wade hands down. Let's see, who just won a title and was named finals MVP? Kobe Bryant is a has been that can not inspire good play from team mates. There are probably 5 other players I would take before him.

Number one player does not mean leading the league in scoring, rebounding, etc, it's how you contribute and help the team to win, I say Wade is number one player in the league now, Heats lost Shaq, Jason William, and brunch of other players, but, Wade is keeping the Heats from sinking by playing excellent smart team ball,

First of all stop spamming this guy, you can get your account deleted for it (just saying so you don't get kicked off). But right now it's one of three guys, Shaq, Lebron James or Kevin Garnett. I don't follow college too much but when this Mayo guy gets drafted let's see how well he does in the NBA, lots of 1st round 1st picks have went on to be flops.

Yeah, I have to agree with Capuchins and go with Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns. He plays his butt off every night, and you never hear about him whining or getting in toruble off the court. He does it all: scores, passes, and plays tenacious D. And what may be the most important attribute, he makes the players around him play better. He is selfless and a true believer in the saying "There is no "I" in "Team."

well this is a biased question... well the answers are... kobe??? nash??? c'mon... they are individuals... bballl is a team sport... and kobe and nash are crap without the rest... but... if i had to choose one... i would say proly... Tim Duncan... he has 3 rings without a star supporting cast... okay tony is good but he burst out last year... and manu was good...and thas it... other champs... shaq and kobe... shaq and wade... and they had strong performances from the rest of the team... but duncan is 3 time final mvp... so i will have to go with tim duncan... or even the AK-47... he gets everything on the board...
