Ross-on-Wye is a small market town with a population of approximately 10,000 in Herefordshire, England, located on the River Wye, and on the edge of the Forest of Dean. The town is known for its antique shops, and high number of public houses.

The place has a long and varied history and Ross boasts to having been one of the first recorded attempts to beautify a town for the benefit of its residents. Originally known as Ross, it became Ross-on-Wye in 1931 due to confusion with other places of the same name. Ross-on-Wye came into the forefront of British tourism when it became a part of the Wye Tour and it remains a popular tourist centre right up to the present day.

I remember Ross-on-Wye and a marketday tradition about 35-45 years ago on, I believe Wednesday. Lovely antiques, silver, and horn handled knives as I recall. Also, lovely china cups. The tea in the inn (can't remember the name but it is across from the marketplace and very old.....I believe 13th century or 14th century) was wonderful with the scones, biscuits, and tarts. Very inexpensive then.
