You shouldn't worry about your shoulders. I'm sure people are watching you for your talent and skill, not for your shoulders. And about your scoliosis, this shouldn't stop you from swimming. Swimming is actually helping your body maintain it's flexibility and strength and help prevent or slows down the worsening of your scoliosis.

Swim wear that accent the shoulders are the ones that have the straps close to the neck and away from the shoulders. If you want to hide your shoulders, wear something that has the straps closer to the shoulders and make your neck and upper chest area show skin space and that will close the gap of the "huge" shoulders. Square neck line or "v" neck line may help. Try some swim wear at the stores and see for yourself. As for the scoliosis, more flowery pattern swim wear may hide the asymmetrical line in the back. Solid colors may accent any asymmetry as well. See if that is true. I am just seeing this in my mind. I hope it helps...

I also have scoliosis and large shoulders. I'm more of a soccer player, but I also swim frequently. I understand how you're self-conscious of your shoulder, not only do I find I have broad shoulders, but also my shoulders and hips are uneven due to the amount of curvature in my spine. I try to ignore this though when I'm swimming or doing anything tha exposes my shoulder to much, because I've found if you don't worry if people are noticing all the little faults with your body, you'll have a better time doing whatever you're doing. People really won't notice your shoulders especially since you're not brining attention to them by asking how you look in something or what they think about it.

Hope my answer helps! :)

wow. i have the exact same problem as you. no joke. to me scoliosis is not anything you can help, so don't about that, most people won't notice unless you tell alot of people. the huge shoulders thing can be from swimming butterfly..but don't let that bother you ..there are soo many other poeple like that..

and even though you don't like swimming you should talk to your coach and tell him that your not here to work on your stroke, or to become a professional you just want the exercise.

Well, I'm the top swimming team in my school too and I also love swimming. And as for your shoulders, don't sweat about it. People might make fun of you, but if they truly are your friends, then they will live with it. As for your spine, try getting it massaged frequently and DON'T push it. Safety comes first. Also try finding someone that will help you swim better without your spine bothering you. Other than that, good luck!

my daughter is also a swimmer and has large shoulders. I think it comes with swimming.
I don't know what to tell you, except, if you enjoy swimming, continue and try not to be so hard on yourself. Others don't judge you as harshly as you do.

I know people with one leg that swim! Heck, NEVER let ANYTHING hinder you from doing something you enjoy. My Niece has Scoliosis and she do what everyone else do, swim. jet ski, scuba dive, etc.
Live YOUR life not some life an Egotisic Person that want to put others down to build their self confidence what to play you for, people SEE and know!!! ;-D

You could swim in a turtle neck sweater with a bathrobe on. You could quit the team. Or.....you can accept that you are a part of a group that values you just the way you are. You are being too critical of yourself! Some people have fat thighs, big ears, thin hair, crooked teeth. It doesn't matter. We are all unique with our own set of gifts. Quit being self conscious.

Just go out there and win.....that is all they want from you----->for you to try and be your best with what you have.

Don't let us down!

Go Team!
