If you're looking for those there are definitely a lot out there. However, in the "mecha" or robot category, there are a lot of Gundam anime out there. The most recent and most popular one, is definitely Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny. You can try those if you want, there's a few love twists here and there, and definitely a lot of fighting. Although I haven't tried it myself, it is recommended by many. Personally, the only mecha anime that I have finished is Gundam Wing, it is one of the older one, but there is plenty of action (blowing up stuff, etc.). Yet while there is only one love couple hinted at, it's very vague and it doesn't focus much on the relationship between the two characters.

Full Metal Alchemist is an extremely good series, and it's not too crazy, either. The entire series is out on DVD so it shouldn't be too hard to find. I also recommend any anime movie done by Hayao Miyazaki, some of which are Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and Kiki's Delivery Service. Princess Mononoke is more adult than the other movies, but it was the first anime I ever watched and I love it. I also like watching Bleach, but it's really just an action adventure type show that doesn't require much thinking.

Eureka 7 had the love and action. But it was one anime that really turned things slightly different in the mecha genre of anime. So ill recommend only the mecha genred animes that fit this bill.
Macross (probally one of the best giant mech animes that has both a set of good love stories, and dramatic action)
G Gundam (the best Gundam series ever IMO which also has a good love story between the lead hero and his female partner).
Zoids: Chaotic Century (more animal mechs than humanoid. But It has the best long running adventure plot to be ever seen. Of course there is also action in here as well as a cute ongoing love story)

Full Metal Alchemist, Fruits Basket, Inu Yasha, Cowboy Bebop,
Wolf's Rain, Princess Monoke, Spirited Away. The last two are movies.
If you want a good range check out Robert's Anime Corner. They have a fairly comprehensive listing of DVD's with a brief synopsis of the series.

Naruto, plently of action, slight humor, and a little bit of romance to stir it up a bit!

my 2 favorites are rurouni kenshin and yu yu hakusho. kenshin is extra severe, and it receives very deep into personality progression, besides the indisputable fact that the first season is somewhat sluggish. at the same time as yu yu hakusho is extremely damn action packed yet lacks the intensity that kenshin has. those are my 2 personal favorites, and they sorta in fantastic condition your description.
