According to some of the answers, there are people who seriously think GWBush makes decisions based on polls????? That's absolutely ridiculous.
GWBush makes decisions based on what he believes is the best course for the country - that cannot be debated - and, unlike so many other politicians - he doesn't waiver when the political winds change direction.
It amazes me how so many politicians and American people can be be so staunchly for the war on terror immediately following the events of 9/11 - yet, when the going gets tough, want to finger point, criticize and bail out!
It's a sad commentary.

A president that takes polls before making decisions follows the people. His or her thirst for power knows no bounds. However, a president that makes tough unpopular decisions based on information that he is privy too but not the public is a true "LEADER".
Public opinion can run this country into the ground. The publics lack of experience and inability to see the results of what might look like the best idea does not enable them to foresee the undesired outcome years down the road. If GWB was president when Osama was sighted then the trade center would still be there today.

Clinton worried about "his numbers" while Bush does what is right no matter the oppositions opinion. I would rather have a president that made decisions on what was right and not worry about "poll numbers"

Makes decisions even though they may not be popular. George Bush is such a president. We won't see another like him for a long time.

There was an excellent speech by Edmunde Burke, a member of the British Partliament, in 1774 in which he talked about a representative's duty. He said that a representative does not owe his constituents a duty to do whatever they want. He owes to his constituents his judgment. If a representative disagrees with his own constituents about something, he should do what HE thinks is best and explain to his constituents his position -- explain to them why he is right and they are wrong.
I believe that Americans vote for politicians on the basis that they trust those politicians will exercise good JUDGMENT, not because those politicians are the best poll-watchers.

Someone who is a LEADER and makes decisions.
I would have to trust that my President is better informed on the subject then a bunch of random people who are home answering a phone call.

One who makes FAST decisions in an emergency (as in stop reading the goat book to the children when we are under attack by terrorists).
and who makes EDUCATED decisions in non-emergency situations (by reading the newspaper, polling, listening to both side of congress), you know actually BEING a politician.
The U.S. isn't supposed to be a dictatorship. The president doesn't get to do whatever he wants.

I think I would rather have a president that is responsible to the people that hire him to run the business of the country. Hey he works for us. Polls are a simple way of finding out what the people want. How they want their country run. The president still has the final say, but at least he is informed of how a majority of the people that he works for think. In answer to your question, I would rather have Clinton as president the Bush any day, month or year.
