Another question made me think this would be a good one.

What possible negative effects can come out of a minor (17 and younger) seeing pornographic material?

So sad. I should have made a yes or no answer so I could get 50 answers a minute.

Ok cycosfireball, 15 or under is fine. What could come of it? Pure speculation. I'm curious.

Boss Brat, usually very demeaning to women, a lot of porn depicts forced sex?

I don't know what kind of sex you know of that's demeaning, maybe this is part of how men and women are different - but this seems irrelevant to age.

Although forced sex is a genre of pornography, it doesn't make up the majority, trust me i've seen my share. You don't see it if you're not looking for it.

The reasons you gave are a part of our society and sexualities already, without pornography at a younger age, so how is that relevant if it develops regardless of exposure?

reddiablola, isn't sex one of the ultimate shows of affection? That's it's purpose right?

glorymomof3, how would it lead them to believe sex is a bad thing if you admit porn is unrealistically blissful? Do you mean the real thing would be a disappointment?

Thanks for the response. I'm just curious how we got to the point of sensitivity about sex where we have to sign release sheets for our kids to learn important lessons like the ones you mention about VD and pregnancy in sexual education class.

I watch it and I would be the first to admit it. Upon watching it I would say that it would lead the children to believe that sex is a bad thing. While porn LOOKS good, it is unrealistic. No one looks THAT happy ALL the time! Anyways, sex should be shared between two people, not 6 or 7... like some porn show...

I personally have no prob with porn, but children may be misconceived into thinking it is a magical thing that doesn’t hurt and has no repercussions (VD or pregnancies)...

Kids will do what they think will be ok.

It is up to the adults to put TRUTHFUL info in front of them to see what it may REALLY be like...

Porn is good for adults, not kids, well for some adults, those who like it at least, but for kids it is a definite no-no it doesn’t give them enough positive info for when they are adults to make certain choices...

Addition:

Porn in general is not bad. It is just the “extreme” shows that can portray sex as a very unhealthy thing. Since children can be swayed by what they see, I would think that you can safely say that the things that they may see in those films can lead them to view sex differently than one who has maybe not been exposed to it at all. In some of those movies, you see people not taking health issues seriously, such as not using protection. In this day and age you want your children to be aware of the risks that their personal choices are attached to. You also see “fetish” films/pics say, of pregnant women. Pregnancy is supposed to be a very private, joyous occasion that a woman and her partner share- alone. It is not a wise time to jump in and out of beds with this and that person, because it can lead to problems developing with the child. Sex looks wonderful on those movies. It looks like it is always happy and you always do it right. I don’t know about everyone else, but sex doesn’t ALWAYS happen right… things happen.

HOWEVER, as a parent, I talk to my children about sex. I tell them the good, the bad and the ugly. Now I am not sure what they will want to do when they are older, but at least I am telling them the truth. I am all for teaching in home before they reach the real world and are taught different. I don’t believe that sex is a disappointment within itself, it just doesn’t look like the way it looks on the movies or in the pictures.

Like here is the question of the day- Who can honestly say that they can keep a smile PERMANENTLY on their face while STARING directly into a camera AND can pretty much have everything done to them and all they say is Yeah?

Not me… I am usually too involved to worry about my surroundings…..

I think we had to start signing those sheets because there are so many out there who are afraid of sexuality. I personally think that is ridiculous….

Here's two, all I have time for. They are already a burden on the tax payer by getting health care for free. I'll cite the so called "anchor baby" as an example of this. Pregnant Mexican women come over while pregnant, pretty much go straight to a hospital, which by law MUST take care of the woman. This woman more often than not has no way to pay for the delivery. So the hospital in turn must either send a bill to the government, or eat the cost. Many hospitals along the border have been forced to close due to the volume of ILLEGAL aliens getting, to them at least, free health care. This deprives legitimate citizens of many of their own health care choices. The second is jobs. Face it, that is the reason that most of them come here in the first place. They steal jobs from citizens and LEGAL immigrants. Their very presence keeps wages artificially low. IF employers could not hire these ILLEGALS at abysmal wages (and they are) then they would actually HAVE to pay livable wages to citizens and LEGAL immigrants. So there are 2 ways ILLEGALS are creating "negative effects" on this country. And don't fool yourself about the SSN's you mentioned. There's a lucrative market out there which provides these numbers so that ILLEGALS can get those benefits.

1. It would give them the general idea that sex with anyone at anytime is fine, which it is not.
2. It is usually very demeaning to the women and would give them the idea that women aren't as good as men.
3. Since a lot of porn depicts rape, it would give them the general idea that it was okay for them to take what they want.

There are a lot of other things, but these popped into my mind first.

hmm, how young are we talking here, and what do you consider porn. I don't think there's harm in 15 and ups sneaking a playboy , but younger than that, I don't know. Or hardchore porn, even, that's too much. The real world isn't like that....

I'm german, so to me breasts and nakedness is NOT porn, but I wouldn't want my 10 or 12 year olds to look at spread open vaginas with dildos......

I think they will mature before it's time. Everything has to happen when it's time, so that you have control over it. I think children's world should be free and full of affection, until the day they are ready to face the real world. But that's just me.
