I'm fairly certain makeup is coded with a pull date.I think that ,because you always see bins of cosmetics that have been drastically marked down. I suspect the companies pull them to prevent them from getting stale. I don't think the big danger with cosmetics is shelf life. It is in usage of it.Women put it on in the morning then touchup throughout the day. Each time they touch the container they introduce bacteria into their makeup, then put it on their face. It's for that reason we should throw away cosmetics after 3 months

YES makeup has an expiration date , you need to throw that out IMMEDIATELY . i think for foundation the limit is 6months to a year . After while , the makeup is no longer sanitary . At this point , its so much bacteria in that foundation that it is not even funny

I'd say generally 3-6 after being opened;however, if it smells funny, get rid of it. Liquid makeup, mascara, and lotions should not be left in the heat. That will make them go bad. I keep sunscreen in the refrigerator because I don't use the whole bottle in one summer. It seems that lipstick can 'sour' quite quickly. And you should have clean hands and applicators to keep from contaminating your products.

yes typically make-up stays sealed on shelfs and is safe until opening, then being exposed to the skin with the bacteria we put on the appliccators that is when the make up starts to "age" and you dont really want to keep make-up for more that 6 months, and keep using it ,{ loaded with germs and bacteria}. Now you can store make up in the fridge to keep the germs from growing , as they would concealed in a warm room temp place.

Make up and lotions and stuff do expire.. The oils and products they mix in do go bad after so long. My bf's brothers has a PhD in chemisty and works for Mary K in the research lab. He told me that all kinds of products like that DO go bad after so long..

This is an awesome questiion. I was watching the Tyra Banks show and they were sayin that after so many months lipstick starts growing worms on it. I think that all make up should, like beer haha, have a born on date...

They should have expiry dates. They say that you should throw make up away every 6 months or so depending on what it is. Everthing else has an expiry date, it'd be kind of cool to see a make up product with an expiry date.
It's pretty gross especially when mascara starts to get that fishy smell :puke:

This is a great idea. They usually say mascara should be thrown out after 3 months but it would be great to know exactly when that time should begin.
