I know I jsut asked a question about it, but I have another.
The compass. Why did it keep changing direction? And why did Jack want Elizabeth to have it?

Okay.
The compass turns in the direction of the desires of whoever is holding and using it. So when he wanted to find Isla Di Muerta in the first one, that's where it led him. That's where we first know how the compass works. In this one, he wanted Elizabeth to have it because he himself was torn. He didn't want to go get the key, because he knew Davy Jones had it. But he didn't want to go get the chest, because he'd still have to go get the key. So he couldn't make the compass work for him. So he tricked Elizabeth, who took the compass and made it point where Jack wanted it to tell him how to get there, even though he couldn't make it point there because that's not what he really wanted.
Does that make sense?

the compass changes direction because it shows you what you want most. If you know what you want the compass will show you what direction it is in. Jack wanted Elizabeth to have the compass so she could find the dead mans chest. He wasn't clear on what he wanted and manipulated her into finding the chest becuase she wanted to find it to save will.

it keeps changing directions because capt. jack did not know what his heart wanted most. he was torn between many things (of which we don't know). and capt. jack wanted elizabeth to have it because she knew what she wanted most (NOT necessarily what her heart desired), and what she wanted most was to save Will. and to save dear William she would need the chest of davy jones. so therefore, what she wanted most was the chest and that's what capt. jack wanted, but it wasn't what he wanted most because he wants treasure and adventure and freedom (the black pearl) and he wants the heart of davy jones because he wants to control the sea and be free of his dept!
