I know there is some law that previous owners to a home have to inform new buyers if someone died in that home, what about rentals? I am in the process of applying to rent a home, I was told there was some damage to the backyard where a car went through the wall... The wall is repaired but, can I ask or find out anything else about the incident?

You can go to the local library and ask to see newspapers from that area, to look for articles. Helps to know the time frame of the accident.

I would ask the landlord. You could also try searching on the local news website. A police report might also contain the information.

Not all states require sellers to disclose if someone died in the house. And I don't believe there is a law concerning rental disclosure since the renter isn't effected by property values.

I think the law differs from state to state, but in Texas, new buyers only have to be lawfully informed if it was a violent/un-natural death, not if someone died from cancer, etc.
As far as renatls, I do not know of any notification that is lawfully necessary. But I would do as the above mentioned stated & do some research from the local newspaper, on the net, in the libarary.

Typically they are not required to inform you about a death in an apt/rent home. You can check with your local/state housing authority or association.

you could just ask the owners or property managment co. about the accident. you could also ask one of the neighbors what happened.
