What you have described about yourself boils down to simply getting along in life. Most people take the route you do - showing trust first, suspicion only when true colors show. But it is also intelligent to be on guard to some degree - after all, there are many dishonest people out to trick and scam you, as we all know. I wouldn't walk through life Pollyanna-style, trusting everyone no matter what. You don't have to be THAT open and trusting, or THAT touchy-feely nice. Most people don't want you up close and personal - just decent and trustworthy.

Lol. I dont think being cynical is necessarily a bad thing. If you have had enough experiences in life, and you have a fundamental understanding of the way people interact, than the liars, and cheaters stick out like sore thumbs. I think that analyzing a situation for it's face value is sometimes foolish, especially when a friendship might result from the interaction, and there is no possibility for romantic contact. With that being said, I think that when it comes to matters of relationships, and being involved with someone, it is not only prudent to judge characteristics of their personality, but also necessary for the success of the relationship in its infancy. It's what intimacy is all about. Trying other people on and seeing how they fit. If they exhibit signs that make you think twice about becoming emotionally invested in something, chances are there will always be doubts, and it is best not to waste your time. Certainly insults should not play a part here.

I have a REAL hard time to trust anyone, although I wish I could. I have been betrayed and lied to so many times. I have became an expert in lies. So far, I have not make a mistake when I think someone is lying. I may not never know the truth or how much of it was a lie. But I know a lie. I do give everybody the benefit of the doubt. I know not everyone is bad. But I cannot avoid to wonder how much of everything is true or false. Pain has this power over people. Different scars. Mine is trust, or lack of it.

It seems to me you have the answer for yourself in your opinion. But some think otherwise, I myself agree with taking it all in stride. I don't know if I take things at face value, because I am not that shallow. I look beyond the words and instinctively listen before I prejudge anything or anyone. But it hurts when people are shallow and it hurts when people lie and cheat you as well. So I do not know how to get rid of that occurance or just let it go, it will always bother us with feelings, and it will always leave a bitter taste in our mouths for the next endeavor and knowing that I take a big piece of chocolate and pop it into my mouth and smile and go on without prejudice. But to say to be a cynical person is wrong I think some people have to because they dont have the defense to let it go like we do, and maybe for self preservation they are right to do that? There is a sucker born every minute, (PT Barnum), and I dont think that the preditors should be able to get to those that have no defense, do you?

I also give people the benefit of the doubt. People say I trust to easily, and so I will get hurt. But, like you noting is shocking to me anymore, yeah people hurt me, but like you I shrug it off. What is great are the stories people tell me, some maybe untruthful, but I don't know until I really get to know them. Are you asking why people are untruthful? Or are you asking why people accuse or insult people who they believe lie?

I'm the same way. If they're lying, it'll all come out later on...I just don't sweat the small stuff.
